How to make that sound...

Puh..so much to learn, so little time..

I wonder if I ever will be able to distinguish ringmodulation from amplitudemodulation, and more important - any reason to learn such details? Will it make me a better composer?

Yeah AM is just RM rectified.

Which means no negative values?

yup :) the modulator signal will have no negatives, or no positives... the sound signal will have both.

If there is no negative values , and no positive, how will there be a signal at all? wouldnt the waveform just look like - compared to ~ (positive and neagive value)

Post

no negative OR no positive, not both :) the effect of all negative on the rectified signal is phase inverting the new modulated signal.

...to SEE what camsr is explaining in words try using an oscilloscope and use a triangle wave as mod
