When I buy hardware (guitar strings, synths, midi devices, preamps, etc.) from a store, it's usually from Guitar Center because I've got one near my job and one near my home. Sometimes I'll buy from ebay if I manage to win a good deal. But mostly my on-line buying has been from http://www.musiciansfriend.com and http://www.sweetwater.com.

I'm curious to know what other alternatives there are for buying on-line. Prices all seem to be standard across the board now. How many buy only from ebay, a walk-in store, or from a website?

Zzounds.com is where I get most of my stuff.

I always go downtown, to a real shop with real people where I'm a real customer that's taken seriously. (after having surfed the net and visited online shops & forums extensively)
My MusicCalc is temporary offline.

Amazon, sometimes -- they sell hardware now through various vendors, and often have the best price.

I do the exact same thing as you, minus Sweetwater (although they have awesome catalogs). I've had very good luck with Guitar Center and Musicians friend. Couple of ebay purchases too.

I love Sweetwater (excellent customer service, which is very rare today...just go into any Guitar Center and see it at its worst)

I've bought and sold guitars and gear on Ebay with very good outcomes...though once bought a vintage fender bassman head that came to me crushed and I was showered with broken glass as I opened the damaged box

I use Sweetwater pretty much for everything or the buy/sale forums on different website. I only goto eBay when I can't find it anywhere else.
