That's like using a Formula One to take the family to the beach.Dave Smith Evolver.
The Evolver is the last thing I would use for pads. It's monophonic (unless you spend > $1000 on the poly models), and much better for leads and basses. It's too powerful to be relegated for pads.
I just placed an order for an Alesis Micron. It's only $400. I intend to make use of it for pads at gigs. I'll post back with my opinions after it arrives.

Its pretty cheap. Is it much better than a Micron?
EDIT: oops followed your link, nice little sampler there. Doesn't sound too different the Micron/MK type of synth. Is it really that great for pads?
