Hi guys im visiting KVR after a long time. Im back at doing my music, and since ive been outta touch im having kinda silly problems
1. i just bought an electric guitar and its freakin electrocuting me, and ideas why ? and how i can stop it
2. I have plugged it into my Edirol UA25, and i cant hear what im playing on the output.
i might sound really dumb, but thats because i am. your advice is much appreciated as usual. I have to thank this forum, without this i wouldnt know half of what i know today.

As a starter, open your guitar and check the wiring for dangling/unsoldered wires, make sure it is properly grounded.
If the guitar is brand new, most likely a soldering can have failed, but if its second hand, there could be chances the previous owner really messed up the wiring, like connecting a hot wire to the ground point or something.

ok its second hand and before i bought it i was at the previous owners place checking it out and i didnt get electrocuted at all, may be because i was wearing shoes ?
umm and about wires, where are these wires ?
as a temporary solution could i just wear shoes and play it ? or is it unhealthy ?

!) If there's a wiring fault inside (ungrounded strings / hardware) it actually couldn't electrocute you. The fault lays in whatever you've connected to. Maybe you've got "phantom power" enabled. Look it up in the manual. Oh, and do select "Hi-Z" also...
2) Twist that "direct monitor" knob next to the headphone socket. You should hear yourself through the headphone socket. If you want to hear yourself with effects (amp sims etc) you should do that using your music software (the host as we call it)

Yeah c00kie mate your right, its what i connect to. i just found out that my house is not properly earthed (grounded) from the main electric circuit.
so if i could turn up the direct monitoring up why is there an output knob ?
thanks a lot mate i knew i could find some help here. im at peace for now. but i shall bother you intelligent creatures as soon as im in trouble.

The output knob controls the total volume. The Direct Monitoring is used to mix in the inputs directly, on top of the normal output signal. For flexibility you need both.kadar wrote:so if i could turn up the direct monitoring up why is there an output knob ?

Ground your equipment. I suppose you could wear rubber shoes and keep away from metal bits, but trust me, grounding your equipment is a lot safer.
Oh, BTW, it's not the guitar's fault, wiring or otherwise.
