My friend just referred this to me. Holy crap, is that VOCALOID2?
I heard Sweet Ann's examples and they were....odd. But these sound pretty damned authentic. :O

I suppose it depends on the working pace and skill of the programmer. 30 days sounds overkill IMHO, but not impossible.

That's like saying it takes 6 hours to create a single sentence...

Anyway, how come no one's mentioned this particular "voice" for VOCALOID around here?

...for me the test for vocal software is if I would use it on one of my own tracks as a lead vocal out front..and for this the answer would be no...
...to be honest I think the best version of Vocaloid has to be Miriam..
but this one here sounds like a 12 year old girl with a bad cold..

How about, "it makes the Chipmunks sound like Crosby Stills & Nash?"

Well... actually I think it sounds pretty close to the voices you can hear in J-Pop, so I think for what they intended to do, it's a success. And considering the work behind this kind of thing, kudos to Yamaha, for even trying to do it.

Well, maybe...but I agree that Yamaha is on a Mission from God in this quest for a plausible human vocal plug-in. As soon as they get closer than Miriam, Lola, etc., I'll buy one...I'm thinking it'll be a year or two yet.

Yeah. Yamaha's come a long way since their cheesy SG technology. (Which is pretty similar to NES FDS-channel 64-stage articulation synthesis.)

But to be honest, being japanese-developed, those ones seem to sound better than the english variants. (At least, in demos anyway.)

I heard that the Hatsune Miku vocaloid was the #1 software in Japan at the moment. It's definitely the first vocaloid product that's sounded authentic to me... of course it's an authentic singing anime robot, but still.

Sounds pretty authentic to me. Check out this song from recent Japanese charts for comparison - it got to number 1 and stayed in charts for 10 weeks

Still impressive though...there is just a little graininess in the held notes that makes it a little too synthy but the glides and replicated pitch overshoots are pretty dang accurate.

VOCALOID2 - Hatsune Miku (plenty examples on youtube)
