Gabber kicks

So...
Me and my friend have been very slowly working on a "joke" split "album" mainly for fun, just to see what kind of whacky stuff we could come up with. In my track, I feel that a gabber kick would really bring out the silliness. How do I go about creating a gabber kick via synthesis? I remember getting similar results when using a saw wave in a synthesizer, but am not completely sure. Any suggestions?

xolax: just make a very "stompy" sine kick, distort it heavily, EQ. Cutting out a big chunk of the lower mids usually does it. You could also use a really narrow boost somewhere in the mids to add a "emphasized tone".
If you want to eff it up more, try non-modulated flangers/phasers with high feedback settings.

Doesn't give you as much control over the harmonic contents over time imo, but horses for courses!Acrobat wrote:... or just swap the sine with a more "angular" waveform...stefancrs wrote:xolax: just make a very "stompy" sine kick, distort it heavily, EQ. Bladerunner:
I saw sines approaching squares in the constellation of saturation... things that you humans will never see..

The most 'simplest' way is probably the "jumpstyle" method as my stupid raver friend puts it.
1. Make a pseudo-808 kick sound with your synth, with a Pitch EG starting from +maximum value, with an attack value of 30ms or less.
2. Use a distortion, or instead of using a sine, use a square wave instead.
3. Add chorus, layered 'variants' on top (ie: copyedits), reverb then distortion, whatever rows your boat.
I highly advise you record these as samples however as these sounds do get very chaotic.
Otherwise get yourself a kick sound, layer it with a bass, and record yourself grunting "bwaow" or some shit.
(It worked with a homemade-mic-recorded-sample-pack-contest me and someone else hosted at another forum.
LOONY shit. http://djtbmx.soulbreakers.com/spc3/SPC ... GABAS!.mp3 for one example of the vocal method.
)
EDIT: My example patch(es) under Hypersonic 2: http://djtbmx.soulbreakers.com/junkpile ... onic_2.mp3 (15sec)

I'd use 909 kicks and loads of distortion, then compress/limit and eq it
