Ok everybody, thanks for the positive feedback. We were very happy with the kit sound we got with the 11 mics; here's the rundown. A matched pair of good 'ole AKG 451 (C)s overhead of course. You can't go wrong. Beta 58 on the snare top, Beta 57 on the snare bottom. Invert these two and it just doesn't sound right! At least with this kit and player. Beta 57's on the Toms. This little bit of room tone you hear is perfect for the low and mid Tom and did something nice to the Kick. The room gave us the low end of these in such an awesome way we decide to stick with close 57's for the higher bits. Anyway AKG 414 B-XLS on the Hi Hat 6 inches away one inch above closed. A pair of Crown pzm's (30D's) with the rising on of course, on the floor 4 feet away from the kit centered. Beautiful! The perfect use for these mics. Excellent natural sound, zero phasing! D112 next to the beater 2 inches away. Beta 52 inside the kick. Ok listen up! If you own a pair of Rhode K2's you can do amazing things at a distance. As in Accent micing. These are magical mics, no joke. We got the most beautiful accent sound from these in omni mode about 9 feet away. Close micing with these sounds awesome 60% of the time, junky 40 %. It all depends on the partials of what you're recording. But, put 'em a small bit away as accents and they do WONDERS! Choirs, rooms, bagpipes, pianos etc. The K2 are a strange and wonderful favorite of mine. Almost always a great and useable surprise. If you're tracking and have a couple of spare tracks, stick you're K2's somewhere for fun. The returns are awesome. Oh yeah, Pre's, good old Presonus M80 and a Grace 101 on the Hi Hat. The Grace handles clean, loud and Hi frequency with, well,.. graceful, Wish i had 8 of these babies.

i just got the pack and listened to them through once and i'm very impressed at the quality of these! the sound is very clean and tight as mentioned. if you for some reason miss the promotion don't be afraid to shell out way more than $10 for these cause they're really good. i'd like to see some more disco-punk esque drums in the future dusted; stuff as heard in bands like !!!(chk chk chk) or LCD Soundsystem. looking forward to hear what you guys do next

boy tourette: excellant information on the mics and stuff will have to refer back to this thread next time i do a drum session, really cool.

We just got done with the recording session mentioned previously.

There are some nice fills, intros, and ends as well as more beats and variations.

I have to edit them and recycle is in the mail, so that will be happening too.

I wish I could play that well, it's not me. Although I am learning a kit. I must say it's my favorite instrument.

trying these out in renoise you can make them electronica nice and fast my friend, will post demos soon.

why they aren't electronica: cause they're recorded clean
why they are electronica: cause you have the option to do whatever you want to them, as with many other clean drum libraries recorded these days. you can grab some nice slices when using a good sampler/host like renoise mentioned above or ableton or whatever. main thing is there's a great live player behind it all with a nice sense of groove, that's key(and the solid recording techniques as shared with us in the thread).

Mr. Tunes is 100% on the money there: I'm becoming increasingly aware that a real drummer does subtle things with timing and groove that would take way too long to describe, let alone tweak into a step-edited pattern.

These bargain-basement-priced loops are living proof.

Besides which, DD is one of the nicest guys on KVR.

It's true. Mr. Tunes is right...they are both, although I couldn't have worded it so elegantly. D&B is electronic, but without the samples of a real drummer it just don't cut it.

Someone sent me some killer effected loops that would make a great example what these loops can sound like.
I'm asking him permission if I can post them.

I'll also try to come up with some electronic style demo's too.

Where Bad Ass Loops is helping me is jamming with my acoustic guitar.

The natural feel of the drum playing and little in-between twiddly bits is surpringly interesting to play along to.

As in - I jammed for half an hour on one loop

Now I have a new source of inspiration
