Help a Noob with SH-201 Editor Headaches

Picked Roland SH-201 as first synth but am struggling to host the plug-in. Installed on two XP machines but neither FL6, Acid or Cubase SX get audio signal. Hardware and VST are communicating through Midi and USB port fine. Got updated driver, it appears like a soundcard under Windows. Must I really route ALL audio through this driver just to playback or record midi? I doubt EMU1820 would get along with this implementation, it hasn't so far. Windows can be a strange beast and operator stupidity can't be ruled out. Any tips?

The SH 201 has 2 USB "modes". Midi and audio. You cannot use 2 audio drivers at the same time. So if you use the EMU card the SH 201s audio must be routed thru the EMU as any other sound source.
The midi part should'nt be affected by this.It should just work like a normal midi connection.

I am aware two soundcards can't co-exist and midi part is working but why isn't host picking up audio through the USB interface? Thanks for the response.
