Well, I just found these D-50 waveforms from a tracker library archive (site dating from 1992, wave set dating from 1996). I'd just like to know what waveforms were used to put together that famous sound?

And there's one more, Rick Wakeman used it in his nutcase solo back in the 70/80's.. What sound is it?

He's hitting something that has written "VFX" on... ???:: don't remember what can be a "VFX".
The sound seems based on japanese flutes, like the ones P. Gabriel uses...

The VFX is of course an Ensoniq VFX.

The D50 sound is the Living Calliope preset IIRC. But it was a long time ago so that could be wrong.

Actually, that patch is called "Pizzagogo"...one of the original factory D50 patches. We always referred to it as "that Enya patch", because the lass was quite taken with that one.

Basically, it uses the pizzicato string partial and another percussive PCM wave mixed in with filtered synth saw waves. If you want more precise information I would have to dig out that original factory ROM card and check to be sure.

That'd be the one! Yeah, I'd like to know whar are the waveforms used to construct that.

There's also a free D-50 refill for Reason (here: http://www.combinatorhq.com/index.php) and according to the patch the two partials are called Bottle 01 and Hollow Synth 01. However I don't know if these names remained the same like the originals so it could be totally wrong.

I don't own/use Reason, though it could be useful for the rest of the folks.

Right...here are the actual facts.

I dug up the original factory ROM card...it turns out that the lower tone uses two kalimba partials, the upper tone uses pizzicato wave and the agogo partials. The main body of the sound comes from the kalimba waveforms.
