Need advice: 3DAuidioInc Mic's, Pre's and stuff

I am looking for input from those of you that have made use of one of the test cd's from 3DAudioInc. I would like to purchase one of the cd's they offer but I am not sure about the mileage that I will get out of it. I want to try out the 3 cd bundle of tested mics, pre's, and converters. So specifically:

Do you think that your purchase/experience with the test cd's was worth the price?
Do you go back and reference that information from time to time before making a mic/pre/converter purchase?
Did the audio tests transfer well to your personal experience with said mic/pre/converter?

My thought process is that it seems like a small investment compared to the price of most of the equipment tested. As well, I'm thinking that there is such a large selection of items [mics/pres/and such] that its quite easy to get lost in the specs on the websites. Instead, I would like to hear this equipment. I will be making the purchase of a mic pre in the next 30 days and I'm just trying to avoid having to buy things twice.
