Which OS / Plugin format should we develop for?

Well, since we have to pick one, I picked MacIntel. But since I still use Windows as well as OS X, I most favour plugin developers that develop for both platforms. And since I'm mainly a Linux-based developer at work, and am using it at home for non-audio stuff, it's good that it may be a viable option for music making too. I know you probably need to concentrate your efforts, but I'd really like to see you stay as multi-platform as you can manage.

hey Blurk, thanks for the feedback. No worries - still planning to keep things x-platform as much as possible. Btw, the question is also a bit about VST vs AU vs standalone. It helps to know in what order the seven different versions should best be released.
The poll mechanism only allows a single choice, but feel free to reply here with a ranking of your preferred choices. Or any other feedback you'd like to share about your platform preferences (e.g which hosts are most important to you?)

If you want the biggest bases, VST for Windows and OSX. Anyone can run them in any host, via wrapper if necessary.

OK. I put MacIntel VST because you do MIDI effects, and I gather that AU doesn't do the easy MIDI out that VST does. For my part, I'm not so interested in standalone because I already have enough hosts to deal with. Also, my favourite host (Bidule, in answer to your later question) is modular, so I don't need to muck around with virtual MIDI "cable" applications outside the host. That said, on the Mac Bidule can host both VST and AU plugins, so apart from the MIDI out, the Mac plugin format doesn't worry me.mucoder wrote:hey Blurk, thanks for the feedback. My personal order is something like:mucoder wrote:The poll mechanism only allows a single choice, but feel free to reply here with a ranking of your preferred choices.
1. MacIntel VST
2. Windows VST
3. MacIntel AU
4. Linux standalone
5. Linux VST
6. MacIntel standalone
7. Windows standalone
Obviously if I had a PPC Mac my order would be different, but I'm a late adopter of Macs.
