Interesting stuff there from Hal Galper.

I remember seeing Bootsy Collins talking on a music doco on Funk. He talked about James Brown telling him to "gimme the one". Bootsy demonstrated by playing an accented tonic note on the downbeat of 1 and then leaving some space before playing a phrase (from memory) starting on the "and" of 2 and climbing up to the octave on the "and" of 4 (moving via the (#4)5th, b7, 5th, b7) and resolving back down onto the root on the "1" of the next bar.

This little riff looped around and established where the bar lines clearly.

I like ripetitive and too simple basslines like 3-5 notes moving fast! And if you got breakbeat then woohoo :hihi:
