Do i have to learn the black keys to become a pro composer for movies and commercials?
I think a lot of film scoring sounds like me being a white key trance music composer superstar.

What does key trance sound like?

Is that a serious question?

I mean, using white keys only limits you to a handful of possible "tonal centers". Now, listen to movie compositions, they're full of modulations and what not.
There's your answer.

Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Press the white keys on your keyboard and you'll probably know.

i will let you all in on a big secret: pro music composer for movies and commercials dont use the black keys at all, they use something called "transpose", using this magical function they can reach the sound of a black key by touching a white one ...

lol this question.

I have to admit that I have been (I am) in same situation. It will surely help also some basic music theory and harmony should be studied too!

And yes transpose is useful, you can basically do everything in c major or a natural minor? Althouugh it would be good to understand how those scales basically work. But you'll still need those pesky black keys for some stuff. You cannot completely avoid them!

But where to put those strange black keys (which dont seem to fit anywhere so well), well I am currently struggling with it although i have already got some basic understanding of it!

These are just my newbie thoughts!
