Have you checked out the upcoming update to Linplug's RMIV? Lots of sampling/synthesis goodness...

Personally, this plug-in as it is now is so close to something I've been wanting for so long. I have also considered trying to make one (or more specifically, commission one) myself, but not being a programmer it's just too cost prohibitive.

The world absolutely needs a simple drum sampler with basic editing tools that works the way it should, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, forcing you to buy a multi-GB library along with it to justify the inflated price. Things like slicers and sequencers are icing on the cake, but let's not put the horse before the cart here.

I challenge anyone: Show me the perfect simple sub-$100 drum sampler. You name it, I'll tell you what's wrong with it, cuz I've tried them all. I'lll tell you right now that most of them won't allow you to preview/audition the sample before loading (or allow d-n-d from the host's explorer), which kills it right there AFAIC.

The only one I don't know is DK+, because the demo would never work properly for me. (But even it's got too much going on for my taste, with the built-in effects and modular UI.) Other than that, ShortCircuit comes the closest, but it's not optimized for drums and costs way over $100. It only *seems* like there's a million same-old drum samplers out there. The fact is nobody's nailed it yet.

agreed but a slicer and alternative sequencing isn't putting the horse before the cart it's putting wheels on the cart.

you gotta look at what people need from a drumsampler, if what one needs is only to turn it on and start banging away then you only need a drum rompler with the ability to load your own samples, but if you really need a drumsampler your also in need of versatile creative editing and workflow. you don't want to leave those samples alone you want to slice'em up and do different things to those slices before you put them back together again. imagine if there was a version of fruitloops that was the stepseq, Edison only.....it would sell like waffles and chicken at Roscoes

I like that! :)

And I don't disagree, but it really comes down to the definition of "drum sampler". What's being discussed here is ranging from "sample playback device" to "loop slicer" to "pattern editor" to "drum synthesis". That's a LOT of ground being covered!

This particular instrument hasn't been sold to us by VAM as an "all encompasing groove box/drum machine", it states quite simply "drum sampler". To me that means the focus should be on the playback of drum samples, period. Get this right first, cuz it hasn't been done yet. Then maybe down the road it can be expanded...

Speaking of Poise, a few things:

1) The previewing seems to be working fine in Live. I guess that was all a Reaper thing.

2) Having to Dbl-clk to audition the sample isn't good. It's bad enough when you have to click even once, because the ideal is to be able to scroll with your arrow keys and have them automatically play.

3) Personally I'd prefer the ADSR turned off as default, same as Pitch Envs.

Please realize I'm being picky because it's so good! :)

stale bread: I hear you, it's just I want to focus on one area at a time and get it right. It's no good having a huge amount of features if overall it's not pleasant to use.
you could use "set" generators which contain even more generators inside then, making it possible to load multiple samples into a single drum channel. but, considering the effort it might be better to design it from the start with those features in mind.
I thought of something along the same lines, but like you suspected, the underlying architecture would need some work. Poise initially started out as a proof of concept rather then a properly planned project.

I've added these two the todo list. Don't worry I don't think people can be too picky. These small things are important as well.

This looks fantastic. One question regarding this feature:
- able to load multiple samples, for velocity switching and random sample playback.
Is this still to be implemented, or am I missing seeing it in the interface? Or somewhere else in this thread? :)

Great work, much appreciated!

Post

It hasn't been implemented yet. It is something I would like to add, but I haven't decided whether it will make it into version one yet.

Cool! Glad to know its not off the table anyway, if only in a later version. Looks like you've got a lot of people with their hot button feature requests to tend to! :)

Good luck and thanks for the hard work.

this is what I think we all need...

a drum sampler that samples internal and external with all those other options available.

ODO/FxPansion-Devine Mach./Steinberg/Ravity/DrumSource/Redshift/mda/Waldorf/psychic modulation/humbeats/dmi/microTonic/AO/plugSound/EVL/EVM/e-phonic/LinPlug/NI
/15 others and that kvr ist who was going to remake the SP12.

I agree, most are simular with slight differ. functions.
If companies got together than separating protocols and ish, we'd get some new solid ground.

-- geese! is it that hard, we're in the future }}} give me that old feel with the new tech, please devels.

ps. make it dimensional and sur-real.

when is the new version coming out?
And out about the reaper problem, will it be fixed?

Warning: Shameless self promotion to follow:

You might want to check out the drum machine I've been working on. As it is now, it doesn't do slicing, but it does have a great workflow, a flexible sequencer and a powerful sampler.

- I don't know.
- If I can. I haven't looked at the cause yet.

[edit]I know that is a frustrating answer. :)[/edit]

xing: With regard to DrumStar, what do you mean by "20 instruments with 12 hit types"?
