why do ring modulators sometimes make vocal-like sounds?
i mean, what's going on here with ring modulators on certain non-vocal sounds at certain settings to make vocal-like sounds? why does it happen?

When fed with sine waves, you get sum and difference frequencies.
Real world wave shapes are more complex, and can be constructed by adding harmonical frequencies to sine waves. Process that through a ring modulator and it gets even more complex.
When does it start to sound vocal? That has to do with the formants; when the harmonical content get really complex...
