I was wondering if there are any good alternatives (besides the obvious NI Battery) to FXpansion's DR-008? Don't get me wrong, I generally like DR-008 but I 'm not too fond of its interface, and besides that it has been ages since it has been updated. Actually, I don't think it will ever be updated anymore?!
Any suggestions are welcome.

i looked high and low, and even though it's long in the tooth, nothing seemed to suit me as well as DR-008.
the interface is smallish, now, and not sooper-pretty(tm), but it gets the job done.
I have a particular way I want my drums laid out (kicks in one octave, snares in the octave above, then hats and metals one above, & toms and other percs above the metals. Comes from programming drums on my keyboard sampler years ago)
And DR-008's visual representation of that (rows of octaves) makes it easy to see what's loaded, etc.
I also love the "preview in place" wherein I can leave a loop playing and select different drum samples to audition from the file browser and hear the selected file in context, without having to commit to loading it immediately (and thus losing changes made to the previous "possible" drum sound)
And the price is pretty fair, too.

not really; I'd say cover the same ground you'd need Attack or uTonic and Battery, as well as something to do midi-triggering tricks. DR008 was fairly unique in that it supported sampled sounds, and synthetic, was totally modular, and included pad types that could do things like trigger other pads...Dozius wrote:Drumular or RMIV maybe? Battery lets you trigger pads with other pads. Has no synthesis, although really, the synths in DR-008 weren't exactly deep, so rendering a synth to sample or building a synth from a short wavetable in Battery will net you most of the same results. You do lose the step sequencer in Battery, though.
