haha, nice one Hovmod, your triple posting amused me, I like how enthusiastic it makes you sound :) excellent mate, glad your digging the record!

Which point of vue about the vocals do you agree with, I guess not mine (probs most won't) that'll teach me to not listen too much straight up metal these days and ALOT of shoegazer indie and NWOBM instead ;)

There isnt a label or anything putting it out so you got all there is to get at the moment, was all done uber DIY, recorded above a pub in Blackpool in 12 hours, mixed by me at home, would be cool if someone wanted to put it out tho, mmmmmm, double gatefold vinyl. ha, I can dream cant I :)

thanks mate, dead chuffed you're enjoying it!

Hey, pupilar.
I'm on my third listen in as many hours. Great stuff.
The 'buying it' I got off this page - I assume that's not quite official then. :hihi:

Well done!

Vocals, well, they're growing on me. :D
At first I thought they were too far back, but now I'm starting to like it that way.

ahh, thats just buying a CDr with some packaging Ric from HCOM is knocking together, if you want one, lemme know and I'll get him to post you one or contact them via myspace. totally chuffed you are diggin it so much mate, thats great, I just listened to tracks 4 and 5 and together I am mad pleased with how they sound, short of this being recorded in a proper studio instead of in a backroom of a pub, I dont think it could have turned out any better (but constructive criticisms VERY welcome all the same guys!!) :) thanks again

After a quick listen...this stuff sounds really good. I love the way you mixed the vocals; the MBV thing you were going for is appreciated by me, though that may be since I'm not a metalhead :) Very impressive.

That bass sound is amazing, care to share any techniques used?

Excellent work!

Does the music have TUBA sounds too?

Without TUBA I am not allowed to listen

Like OMFG!!
I don't think that this could be any further up my street.
Fooken excellent stuff

You've done yourself really, really proud Monsieur Pupilar... :hail:

haha, fook yes, cheers guys :D really really makes me happy to hear you praise, so happy you enjoy what you're hearing!
Cheers brother Ian :D thought you'd be into it having discussed our dirty metal fixations before ;) Vocals are mint arent they! You wait till I do the remixes, I'm gonna make it so fuckin necro, you'll shit yerself mate!

eeerrrr, yep Battle of the Snouts, loads of Tuba in there, check it, you cant miss it ;) I actually saw a performance for Tuba and guitar fx pedals once, called Bayo's Way or something similar, sounded incredible when the guy played Tuba through a distortion pedal, DAMN that was heavy!

glad you dig it tacobomber :) I'm glad you appreciate the angle I was coming from, too much metal is just blandly produced with all the instruments all jumping out and being all in your face, I see other ways of being heavy than producing like that, walls of noise is where I'm coming from, everything blended in together to make one big massive whole :) yeah, it took alot of messing around to get that bass sound right, cheers, glad you like it :) I used the DI'ed Bass in the end after messing with both that and the Mic'd one, I prefer the DI sound, more Godflesh sounding :) I think there was 3 or 4 compressors on there, Neodynium and I think 2 vintage warmers, with just enough overdrive on to make that mid-top end tickle. I used Voxengo LF Max to get the real low end nice and loud, then when mastering it, applied a really really hard compression on everything below 100Hz with Voxengo LF Punch. Quite a brutal method, but seemed to work, I dont think you cant compress bass enough tbh, it was more about making sure that the frequencies didnt bounce about too much by carving bands out with a couple EQ plugins before and after other fx, keep all freq bands quite steady and solid. ALOT of messing around basically, theres nothing I dont think can be done with EQ and a variety of compressors basically. You can tell my production style is very informed by things like Dub, I love my bass sounds :)

Huge thanks guys for the listening, these MP3's are flying off my webspace like crazy, my ISP is gonna be rather cross with me by the end of the month, its shifted about 2.5gigs in 48 hours, so Im excited so many ppl are hearing it :)

Anymore metallers out there fancy a bash at this?

Post

ooooooooooooooooooooh....... i really, really like these tracks! i can't understand all the lyrics... but i'm a CHRISTian so i like heavy music i can't understand. like rammstein. lol.

this is freakin cool. way to go, guy!

this is great stuff. I appreciate trying something different with the vocals being turned down. Gives it an artistic edge.
Liked "the sun burnt cold" and "Bring the Rain" tracks a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks KTHE & Jazzyspoon, thanks for listening and I'm really pleased you enjoy the album :) I'm really happy you like the way I mixed it Jazzyspoon, I know the die hard metallers may find it a little odd, but I'm not just a metaller, so there is a lot more influence in my production style than just that. And KTHE, I've no idea what the lyrics are either, but I know the singer writes about fantasy/william blake kinda things, he's a total Games Workshop/Fantasy Board Game/World Of Warcraft geek, so I don't think it's anything that'll offend your faith if you could tell what he is saying/screaming, your safe there :)

I'm in the best mood this week because of the positive feedback this is receiving, thanks everyone for listening, really appreciate it :) makes up for me being off work ill the past 3 days, totally full of a cold, my body hurts! I think I've burnt myself out as well over the summer, working a full time job then putting 30+ hours a week into music then having a social life as well is a killer. Good thing Im single, otherwise I'd be dead by now, haha!

Post

lemme know when you come out with some more!

Thanks KTHE, I'll be doing a reinterpreted release of this album fairly soon, really itching to get on with it, just gonna finish off a few Pupilar tracks first. I really want to explore the electronic soundscape passages in the album more and also warp and twist the guitar/drum parts and make it really dense and Pupilar sounding. Plenty more Pupilar stuff coming before Christmas too, all exciting times here for me!

thanks again, keep listening everyone :D

PS KTHE, was listening to your tracks on myspace and there is some really great tunes on there, really dirty and groovy, nice one :)

I'll grab this over the weekend for two reasons

1) anything in Blut Aus Nord territory is good by me
2) Pupilar's older stuff was f**king amazing. Sickle, you might wanna check out the website for the older MP3's....
