And it's weirder than ever...

bioHazard

A demo for Col's Massive Retaliations, bioHazard is four instances of Massive using Col's patches transposed into weird octaves, shifted around in time and having other such indignities performed on them

Drums are Battery, and the only effects on the whole piece are a light touch of REFLECT on the mixdown.

Thanks to Donovan for the space, and thanks to Col for an inspiring soundset to put to perverse uses...

Great track. I love how Massive can warp and twist and and really sound warped and twisted. I really like the atmosphere of the part towards thed end. Thanks.

I really love everything that happens at the 4 minute mark on. Good work, but the track could use less drums in the beginning IMO so more of the Massive noises and keys could be prominent.

Ah... comments

Massive's a lot like more traditional physical instruments, in that the octave and key you play in can have a tremendous impact on what comes out of it. Finding the right notes was about 3/4 of the battle.

THe other 1/4 was the little melody/bass line going on off and on. For that I used one of the rhythmic patches (Silicone Happyness, if you want details) driven by a step sequencer (available soon as part of an upgrade for something that a lot of people are waiting for

) where the start/end steps and the transposition were being automated.

I like this.
Although I do like non quantized beats, those hats sound a bit rough on their timing. They also can be turned down a bit in the mix.

Have to agree that the beat is somewaht monotoneous massive, would have loved some velocity-playings on it.

Great stuff, ew! I still haven't had a chance to try Massive yet; its the only NI synth I don't have(that and FM8, actually). Love the sense of motion throughout.

. I was surprised at the timbre changes on a lot of the patches when I transposed them down an octave or so.

For everybody else's info, the only tweaks on any of these patches was from using the macro controls and transposition away from its normal range. So, essentially it's pure Col

i'll see about getting it added to the retaliations page

Tell Tim and Ben I'll have a 256k version for them this weekend...

The hi hat is quantitized besides the open pedal. It's just how everything else is skewed that makes it sound like it's not.

It's an old joke on my part. I started using polka as the ID3 genre tag a couple years ago; it was inspired by a Korn CD that used polka as its genre tag for ID3

Hi there,
This is only the second track I am listening to on KVR! [The music tracker just served BioHazard second in a cue]
I listened to it twice! [Needless to say I found it interesting]
I do not have Massive, never used Battery! Just messing around FL Studio and freebies mostly when inpiration strikes...!

Aldebaran polka returns :)
