electro house sound design

any ideas how to create some electro house sounds i have tried to play with my synths but cant get anything that sounds as good.
what fx, waveforms etc can i use?- my production knowledge aint brilliant, i havent got a clue what most knobs n sliders on my soft synths do!!

It sounds like you want to move beyond simply using presets and start designing your own sounds. In that case, I would suggest that you look beyond a simple 'cookbook' approach to designing a specific type of sound (electro house in your case) and try to develop a basic understanding of subtractive synthesis. I don't mean to sound condescending, because we all have to start at that same point. Many people never move beyond presets, and still write great music with them. However, you are expressing an interest in sound design, and you have to master your tools before you can use them properly.
