Well- I added another 512 MB of ram to my PC and Im still getting problems playing back the studio drum kits-the other sampletank sounds work fine- even the "Vintage Voltage" expansion sound set- but as soon as I select a Studio Drums kit I get major CPU spikes, glitches, static etc- this is a copy of the email I sent IK, maybe someone here can help- I think the problem is with the UFO installer- can I just manually install the sounds like the Vintage Voltage disk asked me to do??- heres the email:
"I cannot get this studio drum capsule CD to install correctly, the UFO (universal format outputter) is outdated- is there a more recent one I can download newer than 2003?- the UFO asks me to select a folder to install sounds and programs- it does not auto select my existing STInstruments folder! It just selects a lone folder: " c:\SR Sound Libraries\Studio Drum Capsule vol.1" WT*?- when I select browse it shows 5 available empty folders in my main hardrive(all with odd names and "~" symbols that I dont recognize)- I have like a hundred folders! none of them listed in the UFO browse are "STInstruments" what do I do?"

Well, there are two solutions. One is to ask Garth for a link to the latest UFO. He provides support for that software and his email is support@chickensys.com The physical product is borderline discontinued (since there's no more ST2 LE). But the sounds themselves are still for sale and we're going to have a special SampleTank Only version of it with improved patches very soon for download. Current owners of the Studio Drum Capsule can download it for $10. upgrade and get the extra improvements and additional patches made JUST for ST. That's coming soon.

Thanks for for checking this out Squids- I finally figured out the problem, this email to Sonic Reality sums up the solution and the problem:
"Thanks - I figured it out- what was throwing me off is that the folder (Drive C: folder) is shown as already open- before you click on it, In all my other browse experiences with music and non-music software- when a folder is shown open in the browser- its contents (other folders, files, etc) are shown below it- so it just appeared as an empty folder that confused me- but almost by accident I double clicked on it- and suddenly I got to a new window with all my drive C folders- so thanks!- sorry bout that- now 512MB of ram and a new harddrive later I may have figured out the CPU spike issue I've been having with this capsule- lol- Ill cross my fingers- When I called IK about this months ago- they said get more Ram and call us back if that doesnt help- its ok tho- you can never have enough ram" After I correctly installed Studio drums they were still glitching-but then I started a new cubase project and switched from my 2004 ST 2 XL to Sampletank 2.2.2 and they worked fine. I didnt realize ST 2 displays the amount of Ram each instrument is using- that is very cool!- the glitching kit was only using around 32MB or ram- so It was definately not a memory issue- but whatever caused it it works now!- WHEW- what a journey- now I think Ill make some music for a change!- Thanks again Squids and Sonic Reality for getting back to me quickly
- Oh yeah- the ST only edition capsules sound like the way to go- Ill be checking the other ones

Yeah, there's a trick we learned about the filter settings for drum sounds. If you put it at 21K and resonance at 1.2 on the 12 oct 2 pole filter setting it sounds a lot "crisper" because it is allowing the highs to come through more. The settings now are a little bit duller with zero in the resonance because it is totally flat (even less) so it doesn't sound as crisp as it does in other formats at the moment. We're going to update all of the patches for this dedicated ST version but you can also do that yourself. The other thing we're fixing is that some of the patches had misc chorus and delay effects in the patch but they're not turned on. So it doesn't DO anything but they're not supposed to be there either and it has always annoyed me. So that's being cleaned up and then on top of that we'll do some extra child patches too. However, I have no problem with giving the extra child patches away for free either. The $10 fee is really for someone who wants to download the whole thing! We mostly charge for bandwidth at that point. But just child patches are small.

Thanks for the tip-Ill probably get the full update since its only $10, is there a ST tips/tricks thread? If not that would be a good one. I haven't even messed with the filter settings yet- now that my system seems stable- I can actually learn some tricks- I was looking through my manual again at all the functionality ST has- I have some ways to go before becoming a Sampletank power user! I did learn about the Zone control tho- I tried to "dissolve by pitch" a midi drum track in CubaseSX that was being played back by sampletank- so each drum and cymbal of the kit would have a fader in the cubase mixer- then I wouldn't have to use 8 channels of a sampletank, load 8 kits, and have to program 8 drum tracks in cubase-each just playing 1 drum- but the problem is sampletank is only playing the kit on 1 midi channel- so even tho each drum has its own fader in cubase- all the seperate drums have to be set to the same midi channel to hear them- but then if you turn down the vol of 1 drum- all the drums get quiter and vice versa- but with the zone controls in sample tank I can use the gain knob to adjust the volume of each drum in a kit- and even save it as a child kit so that works- not quite as conveniant-but still pretty darn good for something that isnt a drums only VSTi.
