I just purchased the Virus TI desktop. The synth is amazing, but the VC control is a pain. Infact it was so bad, I decided to scrap the USB connection alltogether and just have my synth hooked up the good ol fashioned midi in/out way. Unfortunately, I cant use the VC to store any patches that I make. Is there any other editor librarian that allows me to send the patch files and save them in the librarian? Both Midiquest, and the software that Access provides dont support the TI model.

Anyone have some suggestions?

I think you're SOL here. You can always dump the whole thing out as sysex for backup. That's what I did.

Maybe you better check out at http://www.virusti.com/forum/ , that's a dedicated (unofficial) forum. My experience is similar to yours. I've contacted Access many times telling them to make a cut down version of Virus Control, with midi only functions, to use as a simple vst editor/librarian, but they don't want to make it.

Access seem to have their hands more than full just getting Virus Control working as is. Don't expect any librarian variants.

You can also just occasionally connect the TI via Virus Control to back up your patches and then go back to using it as a standalone midi synth.

Yup, USB sucks. Did you try the 'Live' button in the new OS though? It cuts latency in half - but its not sample accurate so you need to turn it off when you render your tune.

Anyway what I do is use the USB connection for sound design, then eventually load the patches into a RAM bank and use an analog connection to actually write songs with it.

It would be great if they allowed you to use VC just as an editor...

I have absolutely no problems with VC, guess I'm one of the lucky few!

mkbigmoz, could you describe the problem? One thing I read is that the Virus USB is very picky about other devices on the same USB port. Maybe you could try to add a seperate USB card just for the Virus? Other problems seem to occur when you use the Virus as your main audio device.

I'm using a Kore as my USB 2.0 soundcard, and the TI plugged alongside it [USB] for VC functionality. Certainly I've had noticeable problems with latency in Logic with the VC.. but the 'D' mode and a couple of TRS 1/4" leads back into the Kore's audio inputs rids me of latency althogether. It's sort of a hybrid - using VC as described, but then good old fashioned direct monitoring for playback.

Live mode works well, but not well enough for me to play fast runs through it. Funny, because I'm sure it worked better than this in the past...

Well, the way I do tracks is organized with each instruments patch name. So I want to be able to write each patch from my virus into a folder on my main song. So right now I just dumped the sys ex from my virus patch to the beginning of a midi track... but the sys ex does not record effects levels from the virus (like reverb, delay, distortion)... so even with the sys-ex I have problems. I can't believe there are no editor librarians for this thing

Another potential issue.... I am hoping some members can recreate this so I can find out if there is a problem with my synth or what the problem is...

Please choose patch Ram-A 63 (Q+ Fatty). If you play a 5 note chord, you will not be able to play any more notes on the keyboard. They will not be audible. I imagine that this has to do with polyphony, but Virus claims an 80 note polyphony on this TI. Can anyone recreate this effect? Is it a polyphony issue or my TI?

80 voices is highly optimistic. Maybe if you're playing a straight saw wave. The more complex patches can easily bring the polyphony down to 4 voices.

Ya, I have the latest drivers and OS installed for it. Im not willing to do some of the suggestions or formatting my hard drive with a clean install of XP.

Why would anyone run a 3 hour project (reinstall) for a potential fix. Can any of you guys with the TI try my experiment in the post above with the patch (Q FATTY)? Thanks guys

As far as I can tell I got at least 10 poliphony out of that patch. Could be more, but it's hard to test it as the patch fades out quite quick and the envelopes don't work (prolly mod matrix). Also AFAIK if you play a chord and run out of poliphony the next notes you play should be audiable, only your chord notes will begin to go off.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that using the hypersaw, osc3, subosc and noise, not to mention filters, effects and lfo's you can easily create DSP intense pathes which will eat up you poliphony like crazy. add to that the master unison of 8 notes and you can easily get patches that use 150+ oscilators per key
