can tempo info be removed from a wav file? how?

Post

Open the wav file in a sound editor. Select all. Copy. Close the wav file. Open a blank file. Paste. Save.

thanks I'll try that, is there a good program to do this to a batch of samples?

Post

it didn't work, anyone else?

I use Sound Forge. I'm pretty sure you could use its batch automation utility to do this. Not sure about other apps...

I don't see how it could have not worked... you're just copying an arbitrary selection of audio samples and pasting them into a brand new file with no acid data. That information is saved in specific data chunks in the wav file, not attached to each audio sample.

----Most hosts these days just guess (if a sample/loop is not Acidized with tempo info) at the tempo based on the length of the sample and whatnot as far as tempo mapping, you should also be able to change it's properties in almost any host, so it can play back in different bars/tempos. In other words, removing the Acidized tempo info is a waste of time since you most likely can just disable it in your host.

I use FL5 , I know FL7 has a feature where you can disable it from reading sample info, but in FL5 there are several samples where I'll send them across and the timestretch is automatically applied. It's a pain to have to turn te knob every time when I like to roll through samples quickly. I don't know if FL5 can be altered in this way or if it is actuall reading tempo info or guessing, but only certain samples do this.

FL5 applies timestretch automatically to everything whether it's acidized or not, you have to turn the knob everytime. It's a pain in the ass.

Install the Reaper demo, play the audio file in one program and use ReaRoute ASIO driver as the output and then open another program with the ReaRoute ASIO as the input and record it in real time.

Just another way of recording just the audio in case nothing else works.

Gol told me a way. You can use edison in fl7 to load the sample that has tempo info, then in properties, uncheck tempo sync, resave. Now it will load without having to turn the knob. I'm just trying to find out how I can do this to a batch of wav files. Anyone know of other programs that detect/ disable tempo info?

I can put this into Translator Free today if you'd like.

Batch convert any number of WAVE files that have ACID chunks in them to REMOVE the chunk, so they become regular WAVE files without the slice/tempo information (that is, without the ACID chunks)?

I just did it.

Here's how you do it; download Translator Free from www.chickensys.com

Open the program; right-click on the folder that contains the files on the left.
Select Tools-SampleTools-Slice Data-Remove

This will remove the ACID chunks in WAVE files if they exist, or the AppleLoop chunks in AIFF files (.aif or .aiff extension) if they exist.

Make sure you are working off backups; let me know how it works.

hey thanks Garth, I appreciate that, I'll try it now. Edit: okay it wouldn't do the folder because of the free limitation, but it worked on the single file on the right. Though it replaced the original file instead of putting the new file in the destination folder I selected.

Will you add this feature to the pro version? I have that one.
