If you mean where are the kits from soniccouture, they are included in the Acid package on the "free stuff" page.

The clap and rimshot are both analogue.
The hats, crash and ride are digital waveforms ran through analogue filters and amps. The envelopes are also analogue giving imperfect timings.
that's wrong, the sampled parts don't run through any analog filter. it's a 6 bit highly compressed sample that runs through a D/A conversion process and then through an analog amp.
secondly, the variation on each trigger of the kick drum is noticable. any variation with the samples on each trigger caused by the envelopes or whatever you claim causes this is not noticable. not to my ears. not like the kick drum...

If you look at the service manual it will tell you that the high hats are ran through filters to remove unwanted frequencies after the D/A conversion.
Are you saying the service manual and schematics produced by Roland are wrong ?
About halfway through the TR-909's productiion cycle the High-hat filters were adjusted by Roland.
Are you saying they were bluffing when they put this info in the service manual ?
Ok, first you say it's not noticable and then you say it's not noticable like the kick drum.Which is it ?dirty oscillators wrote: secondly, the variation on each trigger of the kick drum is noticable. any variation with the samples on each trigger caused by the envelopes or whatever you claim causes this is not noticable. not to my ears. not like the kick drum...

whatever... i'm not going to argue your specifics ACID MITCH.
but i will say this- that filter is not the same as something like a Curtis Filter chip on a Prophet 5. it's STATIC. it does not change the sound over time. secondly, i highly doubt that just because the samples run though some analog stages they change in timbre enough to be noticeable upon each trigger. my original point was that the kick drum is the most noticeable thing, and i can hear how each trigger sounds different, even in a mix. but the crash cymbal? no way.
i've used a 909 several times in the studio and i've owned a jomox for about 8 years (which is essentially the same setup - analog kick, snare, etc., sampled cymbals and crash which run through a VCA) and i've NEVER noticed the sampled parts sounding different upon each trigger.

You mean 16 or actually 6 ?? So Low-res??dirty oscillators wrote:it's a 6 bit highly compressed sample that runs through a D/A conversion process and then through an analog amp.

Acrobat: They are actually 6-bit samples, but compressed to use the full dynamic range of 6 bits, and then shape with an analog VCA on playback. So the cymbals actually sound reasonably good.

6 bit... and highly compressed.

the concept seems rather interesting, and i agree about the generally poor quality of the offerings for x0x sets (minus goldbaby's stuff which is a real stand out).
You really have to make this set pristine for it to be of any interest though ; do you really feel like the wami is high end enough (no sarcasm here, i don't know this interface, but it looks prosumer-ish at best) ?
PS : and yawn at the people yawning at x0x's

They are not my specifics. They come from the service manual, which I see you have now had a look at.dirty oscillators wrote:whatever... i'm not going to argue your specifics ACID MITCH.
You stated that only the kick, snare and toms were analogue and I pointed out the FACT that more voices than that are analogue. I didn't think there was anything to argue over.
If you don't apply modulation to something like a Curtis filter it will also be static.dirty oscillators wrote: but i will say this- that filter is not the same as something like a Curtis Filter chip on a Prophet 5. it's STATIC. it does not change the sound over time.
I'm not sure what your trying to say here.
Jurgen that makes the Jomox stuff has stated that he uses analogue amps and envelopes so that every hit is not the exact same.I'll try and find the quote for you.dirty oscillators wrote: i've used a 909 several times in the studio and i've owned a jomox for about 8 years (which is essentially the same setup - analog kick, snare, etc., sampled cymbals and crash which run through a VCA) and i've NEVER noticed the sampled parts sounding different upon each trigger.
The Jomox circuits are more stable than the old Roland gear though.

Whats the problem, there are that many 808 and 909 free samples on the net that are just as good as you would find in Rolands lastet hardware gear.
If you had a real one you would probably still sample it anyway.
I supose that it is too expensive and not very economical for Roland to make those analog machines any more, but who wants to pay the price tag for Rolands latest sampler offerings.

We believe that nobody has released any Sample Set giving the real boxes a match, and that is a fact, I know, I own them both.
If you have a library to point out, please give me a link.
What we want to do is to make a library that makes the owner of the real thing put the hardware on Ebay, yesterday...![]()
I think these boxes are worth a _real_ sampling treatment once and for all.
So, we are working on it, despite the fact that there all ready is a huge amount of "TR" samples around.
Best regards,
Lars Westin
I believe my Tape808 samples to be some of the finest 808 samples ever made! I used 2 TR808's an Ampex valve 1/2 inch 2 track tape recorder (probably the best mastering recorder ever made!) and Metric Halo ULN2 converters. There is also a free groove template of the 808 on my free page.

Hello Hugo!
You have your approach to sample the classics with true tape recoding analogue gear etc and I have no doubt at all about the sound quality of your product. I hope you get great sales and happy customers.
Our library has a different approach with true non processed samples that is recorded multiple on each stage of the available settings to capture the organic feel of the boxes circuits. It has not been done yet and for those who like too have the evolving analogue feel of the originals out library delivers that.
So we are focusing on the machines irregularities with non outboard processing, the user has to feed the sound to his/her gear to "pimp it up" but the core sound is "True" with the things that is special for this classics; evolving sound.
I think this machine deserves a proper sampling with the focus we have pronounced here.
If someone buys it Ok, if not well, Ok, we do it because we love it anyway.
Best regards,
Lars
