I like both their voices and the two part harmony is exquisite and very musically intelligent. I've always been a big fan of Robert Plant as a vocalist and Alison is just beautiful.Chuck E. Jesus wrote:listening again a bit, i love alison krauss' voice...

maybe they should do that Kenny Roger's and Dolly Parton song - Islands in the sun. I would like to see that.

Thanks for the recommendation - another Plant fan here, not so familiar with Krauss. But I'll check this one out for sure

I listened to it again today. It's not without charm, to be sure.
I really like the version of Please Read The Letter, this style seems to suit the song much more than the original Page&Plant recording.

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I know that it's actually "Islands in the Stream"....Rangtangtang wrote:maybe they should do that Kenny Roger's and Dolly Parton song - Islands in the sun. I would like to see that.

It does not surprise me that people on KVR know who Robert Plant is, but I'm surprised to see that people know who Allison Krauss is. Show of hands, how many of you guys followed Allison's career before this collab?tboulette wrote:I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I know that it's actually "Islands in the Stream"....Rangtangtang wrote:maybe they should do that Kenny Roger's and Dolly Parton song - Islands in the sun. When I worked construction, my boss listened to the local pop country radio station. So I had heard of her before this. That being said, I wasn't really interested then, and I'm not really interested now. I'm just following this thread because sighup's involvement is fascinating.

I knew who she was before this, but like John, I was never especially interested in what she did. I like old bluegrass, but the pop-influenced bluegrass isn't my bag.

Yes sort of though wouldn't say I followed it particularly zealously but I was aware of how good she was - I first heard of her through Buffy years ago as she had a couple of great tracks on the show (like many good Indie performers actually) and I loved her voicejames0tucson wrote:It does not surprise me that people on KVR know who Robert Plant is, but I'm surprised to see that people know who Allison Krauss is. Not a big C&W fan but the more folky-bluegrassy-rocky stuff I can enjoy - particularly love Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams and a few others.

I'm also a violinist, so I've been familiar with her work for years. She both sings and plays magnificently. Very talented lady. OK...maybe her bow hand could use a little work.
