ok, i think i need to clear this up:
1. it was me who nailed on the se/sm-question someone else came up with. not totc. he's _not_ responsable.
2. i am not against se/sm at all. a few se/sm-creations made clear that a good plugin can be made with these apps. unfortunateley (imo) these are just a _few_ dev's who did up to now.
3. to me it matters if it is se/sm just because i would lower my expectations then. i simply got dissapointed too often by sm/se stuff ...
4. if the plugin would've been handcoded, the dev would most likeley point that out as soon this question comes up. just because there's no benefit of allowing the rumour that the plug could be made in se/sm, as you cannot do as much in se/sm as you can if you know c++. it's simply the natural limitations in se/sm, that to overcome are very hard, or not at all possible.
this is why i'd like to know this.
it's my own opinion on this, noone should be forced to share it or should feel offended by this.
now back to the topic.

No you can't.TotcProductions wrote:You can always tell. Look at Atomsplitter plugins, and all the other SM plugs with a custom interface, they have a certain layout and labeling that can't be avoided due to the way you build GUI's in Synthedit...samething goes for SE...even on the OtiumFX plugs, you can tell it's synthedit by the labels on the actual controls.

there _are_ certain limitations for gui stuff in se/sm.
and you can tell. totc is right.
se:
- either custom gui, or (most likeley) .sep's in your vst folder
the dropdown menues seem to have always scrollbars.
sm:
- a hand over the parameter, which dissapears on the movement of the parameter
a certain structure and layout on the presetmanager
etc, etc ...
i don't know in how far one can overcome this with custom code, but i assume it's very hard.
i.e.:
sylenth1's audioengine is completeley crafted in c++ (assembler too?). the gui is made with synthedit, and though the dev is a crack without a doubt, even he couldn't overcome the creations of a lot of .sep's.
fact is:
if you _can_ overcome these limitation with custom code, you really have to know your stuff in coding.
if you know your stuff in coding, why should you use se/sm then? it's hard (or under certain circumstances impossible) to optimize an algorithm in se, which is what you always must do, in order to keep the cpu down.

ok, this might be ... but i (up to now) was able to do so ... at least when i am able to tweak the gui ...
i.e. even drumatic3 i was able to tell, allthough thisone is a masterpiece and clearly shows, that, if the dev is creative, what can be done in se ... but it's a rare exeption ... all imo, of course ...
again, i'm very sorry for the hijack (it was not intended), back to topic please.
mod's:
maybe it's a good idea to put up a sticky, named "pro'/con's of se/sm and alike". so this could be discussed once and for all there ...

Tweaking the GUI, yes, but not just by looking at a picture of it. Some SE plugins you can see a mile away, since they use default behaviour. But you can change and customize all of the graphics in SE, to the point that it will look like anything else.brok landers wrote:at least when i am able to tweak the gui
Once you use it, though, there are control responses in SE that are inevitable.

must admit i never downloaded this as i was never interrested in it ... from the looks i couldn't tell, then again, there's nothing special in it, gui wise?nuffink wrote:So what's the giveaway here? hmmm.... slow startup, bit of an audio fart... lots of little extra files suddenly appear.... usually high CPU use.... need I go on? hehe
(ducks for cover)
O yeah... and the (generic/overused) dropdown menus
(Just imagine, Nuffy if you hadda coded Chordspace Playa Playa Boy... in GOMPy script..... you'd have had none of this b/s and also the Mac market.... O well, live and learn, ay? hehe)
