I'm quite tempted by Kontakt3 and I am considering the upgrade from Kontak2, which seems good for the price.
Q: Is the the 33Gb Kontakt3 library an expansion or a replacement?
i.e., if I delete my Kontakt2 library when installing Kontakt3, will my old Kontakt2 projects still find the right samples in the Kontakt3 library?

The K2 libraries are included in the K3 set, but a lot of patches are renamed/reorganised.

- Please keep KONTAKT 2 and its library installed in parallel to
KONTAKT 3. These are independent products with separate install
folders, settings, plug-in IDs, content etc. If you need to save
hard disk space, only delete the VSL Orchestra folder from the
KONTAKT 2 library since it is completely contained in the
KONTAKT 3 library. Most of the remaining content has been
replaced in KONTAKT 3.

The Kontakt 3 library doesn't completely duplicate the K2 library. Like it was mentioned, the orchestra stuff is still there(and improved as well), and you still have the Akkord Guitar and the Electrik Guitar, the old pianos(with new ones added as well), and much more. However, there are some things missing that were in K2, such as the synths and others.
I don't know the exact list, but I know that some of the old content stuck around, and some was replaced. The new content, IMO, is superb. Everything I've had a chance to try so far has been great. The new horns are by Chris Hein, the guitars have stuff from Pettinhouse and that is great. Not to mention that with the new effects added the guitar samples can actually sound good out of the box.
I have especially loved the new World instruments, such as bagpipes and all the Irish flutes. Great stuff. The only thing I miss with the library is some solo orchestral strings. There are some World solo strings, but no violins or anything. THAT would be a great addition.
Anyways, my thoughts so far after one day of playing is that the new stuff in the library is fantastic. It's almost all usable. In K2, there were several things that just weren't that great. But they have done well with the new stuff in K3.
And I personally like the new interface for the most part. I know some people don't, but it helps. I'm just trying to figure out the library browser as I scanned my library but can't get the patches to show up, just the folders.

dang, my apologies for being misleading. i went thru my K2 folder and deleted 'big' stuff as I found it in the K3 folder, but, now that someone's said otherwise, its made me realise there was indeed some stuff I left in there. sorry.

Yeah, the quickload tab. Instruments appear in the search tab when I search. So I know they are there. I will admit that I haven't read the manual yet though(probably because it's PDF only, and I hate that!).
But am I missing something on the library? I can browse the folders but not access any sounds. I have been using the regular file browser in the meantime.

Thanks everyone! I'm still waiting to make sure that all the K3 problems in Sonar are ironed out before getting my (dusty and cob-webbed) wallet out. (seems the latest update did the trick?)
I keep forgetting that my external HD is 500GB, so I'd be as well just keeping the K2 library, as it's taking up only 17Gb or so.
It's silly, but the thing I'm probably looking forward to the most is the quicksearch function.

I have been trying the standalone. But later today I'll be trying it with Sonar 7 later today with the new K3 update. I'll post back if I have any problems.

oddly the quickload is only so the instruments show from the load instrument pull down menu (floppy disk icon on the top task bar).
it is confusing, no idea why you cant actually load the instruments from the quickload tab.

That is VERY odd. You'd think that since they have a tab you can browse, that you could load from there. I wonder what the thinking was there? I personally like having the directory open and not having to browse to it again using the stupid arrows. I can still do that with the file browser, but it's not the same since I have to deal with non-sample content as well.

Also, is there any difference in start-up time compared to K2? It's not as bad as it used to be, but K2 still takes a while to apppear, usually after spinning up every HD and CD drive on my machine.
