Okay, here's the issue - I'd appreciate any insight...

I am out of town and forced to use someone else's computer and I took my Novation Remote SL 25 with me so I could get some work done with Reason while I'm here...

I can't get the SL to be recognized to control devices or to input midi notes...What bothers me is that when I go into Preferences, in Advanced Control the Remote SL is automatically recognized under Bus A, B, C, and D and the MIDI clock sync options as Remote SL in port 1, but it won't show up under Keyboards and Control Surfaces (shows up with the red X) and no matter what I do, nothing works.
It says that Reason can't find the MIDI port selected and to make sure it is properly connected, which obviusly it is if the Advanced Control tab sees it!! I even went so far as to uninstall and re-install Reason 3.04 -- and when that didn't work I went and got Reason 4 hoping that would rectify the issue to no avail!

I get this message in Reason 4 when I try to add the Remote SL as my master keyboard:
"The Reason Remote Mapping File cannot be found for Novation Remote SL. If you have separate Remote drivers for this control surface, please try reinstalling these. Otherwise, please restart the program and try again."

I have re-installed the Novation USB drivers and Automap drivers countless times -- nothing helped. Can anyone offer me advice or a possible solution to this? I would be very appreciative.

(note: the only thing I can possibly think of that could be causing an issue is that this woefully outdated system I am working on has USB 1.0 ports and no USB 2.0 hi-speed ports, but I don't know if this should have any effect)

Please Help! Thanks!

The only way that I can get the Remote SL to produce sound in Reason is if I go to to the advanced MIDI device settings in the Reasons Hardware Device in the rack and assign an individual channel to a particular device (Channel 1 to NN-XT 1, for example) but that is not any help...

Novation's website answerbase gives instructions that apparently did nothing to rectify this either...any ideas??

Is Rewire installed automatically with Reason? If not install it. The Novation SL requires Rewire for some functions.

Also when I was having trouble getting my Photon X25 to be recognised as a MIDI device over USB by Windows this fixed it. Obviously backup your registry first just in case

To Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
START > RUN > (Type) REGEDIT (and hit ENTER)

2. Locate the UpperFilters and LowerFilters value under the following key in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Now you have to UNINSTALL THE USB AUDIO DEVICE, UNPLUG IT, AND REPLUG IT AGAIN

The reason is, the automap installer was released before Reason 4 was available. It says a new SL installer will released in the coming weeks. That was posted early in October... hmmmm.. I hope they hurry up with it!

Well, I saw that on the Novation site also, but was having this problem with Reason 3.04 on this computer here also...Didn't have that issue back home....anyone else got any suggestions? (Besides twiddling my thumbs waiting on Novation's Automap update)

Hello Guys,

Olly from Novation Tech Support here.

First thing is to make sure that the SL is running the latest OS and has the latest Templates installed. Download the SL 3.1 installer and make sure you read the instructions that pop up in windows during installation (how to get the SL ready to accept the OS update, and making sure that memory protect is off so that template changes are saved).

In Reason, you should be connecting to PORT 2 (not port 1).
Reason 3 will just work, Reason 4 requires manual installation of files. Go here to get the files and installation instructions:

The next SL release is currently in the pre-release testing stages. You'll need to twiddle your thumbs for a little while, but hopefully not for much longer!
