Audio Ease Speakerphone/Nautilus/Rocket Science Group Buys

Of course the group buy is a good news for most
of the potential users. Congratulations!
But not for those who have been enthusiastic enough to buy it for a full price. I think it's not very good customer policy towards
those loyalists to declare 40 % sales after the brand
new product has been on the market just a couple of weeks.
I hate to be negative but I think that
Audioease should have been started the group buy right at the same time
when they launched the Speakerphone or wait at least some time
before putting the product on the sale.
It's most hypocritical to say, as the Audioease writes in their reply to me, that "We have not realized we might be hurting your confidence", by
declaring the 40 % sale group buy after the product has been just a couple
of weeks in the market. I wonder what they thought those quick customers
are thinking at the moment?
I don't buy your excuse that the group buy for such a new product was
just a spontaneous "quick decision". A stable company doesn't launch a new
product in such a way, particularly when you have developed the Speakerphone for years!
My guess is that the Audioease realized that the common opinion in the market found the Spekerphone to pricy and decided to compensate their mistake by starting this group buy. They must realize that this means spit on the face for those customers who have just paid the full price of the product.
But it seems that Audioease calculates that this kind of bad will is a price they are ready to pay to get better profit.
I think the fair policy in this case is to include those brand new buyers
before the group buy to the group buy discount. But the Audioese refuses to do so.
This compensation saved the Audioease the bad will
which can be in the long run much more costly than a few thousands compensation for those who have paid the full price.
It's a shame that the company which creates such a great products
is so shortsighted in their customer relations policy.

The groupbuy was announced on the Yahoo list, as a lot of people where requesting a groupbuy for speakerphone there.steff3 wrote:is there any period of time it will run or is it a typical European thing - arbitrariness?
It says LUG but it is not mentioned on LUG ....
best
It is indeed not mentioned on LUG, but was posted by a LUG admin on the Logic Yahoo list.
From the post:
The group buy will start at 0:01 a.m., Wednesday 31 October, Central
European time, and run until Midnight, Tuesday November 14 Pacific Coast Time.

@Harry
I hear you, it's indeed not a great thing to do, two and a half weeks after it's release.
Compensation would indeed only be fair for people who have bought it just prior to this groupbuy.
I hope they will change their minds on this for all of you.

except for the fact that this is not a plain group buy, this is for members of the logic users group... And I imagine it was set up by them, like the many other group buys they have had in the past.

Indeed, LUG arranged it, but it's still a "plain group buy" as anyone can open an account at LUG in seconds by simply registering, and join.
Not much difference…

Then you must be a 'Yahoo logic users member' then, otherwise you can't join in this group buy, so it reads in the announcement post.

According to another thread, the challenge/response system requires the same system drivers as the physical ilok hardware. I actually don't mind the hardware key, its the copy protection drivers integrated into my OS which I object to.NorthSouth wrote:Not iLok only.deastman wrote:I would love to jump on this and get Speakerphone, were it not for ilok. No sale.
From the groupbuy info at the Logic list:
Speakerphone is ilok dongle or challenge response
Rocket and Nautilus are protected via challenge response
There is a single authorization per copy sold, when changing systems
it is possible to request re-authorization from audioease.
At work I have to deal with the same thing with my 3D animation software. Some of the third party plugins require a licensing system, which leaves several background processes running all the time, even when no applications are running. Damn annoying, that.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I also think they should over something for the regular buyers. Elemental Audio (RIP) and some time in 2004 after having their end of zear sale in 2003 and shortly afterwards a groupbuy offered all XMas-buyers a rebate of the reduction on the next product - so I got Neodymium for a few bucks (price - registered user reduction - groupbuy bonus) - that was really fair.

Unfortunately that's true, as i also just found out, checking it after reading your post.
A CR question is also answered at their own forums (speakerphone forum) and confirms that you need to install the 'pace drivers' in order to be able to activate.
So iLok or CR, no difference in this case.
Well, so be it.
All users can do is complain about it and maybe they will one day do the right thing, and if they really must, better change to syncrosoft. ( never an issue here, works great)
For now i'll take my chance, as this is imho a to wonderful tool to have/ work with.
The group buy is almost at full now 965 points out of 1000, for the 40% discount, and still 12 days to go.
Folks are surely wanting this and I can see why.
Hope pace will behave….

if they reach the goal, will they let us have it? (I was kinda kidding yesterday......but maybe it worked?)NorthSouth wrote:

Oh your such a impatient person, but i DO understand it, can't wait myself
Well, i was kidding too and not at the same time.
If all is going that well, as it looks now, maybe a extra 10% would be nice to make it 50%.
I guess a lot more will be sold with 12 days still to go at top discount, so something extra would be nice.
Or leave it a 40%, and give all pre group buy buyers a discount or coupon to ease their pain would also be great.
I mean 2 weeks after it's release and then this deal, i would be a little mad too.
So why not give all that already registered SpeakerPhone a bonus to compensate for that mistake/bad move a bit.
Anyway, don't know really, i'm just a buyer, but one could ask of course on the Logic list etc…..
