looking for a pair of budget headphones similar to the akg 240s - since i have to buy many pairs for a studio they should be in the $50 price range(i know way less than what 240s cost!). what i like about the 240s is their nice balanced and round sound, most cheap headphones sound a lot more pinchy. any suggestions? thanks!

$50 bucks? Can't be done AFAIK. $75 bucks each will get you the Sony MDR-V600s tho. These are very good for the money.

The V6s are more like the MDR-7506 actually I'm pretty sure there is no difference outside of the "pro" stickers. The V600s are all plastic, heavier, slightly bigger and more bass heavy. The V6s are more comfortable for long periods, cleaner and more spacious sounding. All that adds up to a lot less ear fatigue.

If you go to eBay, with buy it now and shipping you can get it done from the US for about £50 the best price I could find from a UK vendor was £68. From looking around I gather that the V6s are a little hard to get over there.

Thanks Tom, I'll take a peek later and add them to my list...

AKG K240s *is* a budget headphone. If you need to buy a lot of them for an educational institution, find a vendor that will give you a quantity discount.

Sony earpads wear out faster, BTW.

You're talking about $75 headphones, few of which will be anywhere near as good as the AKG's you should be able to get for just a little more.

looking at ebay.com (US), akg 240s' can be had for ~$10 more than the v6s so James has a point...

well in canada the akg headphones go for about $150 or more, and then we have sales tax. it's still unclear as to if we're seeing any savings these days with our dollar being so strong compared to the US one, but I was looking to find headphones in between $50-$75 CDN. when you say ebay i'm not sure if you're referring to used headphones which i'm not considering as an option.
