better look again, because it IS free.DuX wrote:Woah, now that's something to write home about, SC will maybe be freeware? Now, that's really cool, to put it mildly.
Have to keep an eye on this thread...

This is very generous indeed! Kudos to the developer! Will take a serious look at surge again for sure!
Cheers!

Now this is interesting...
I guess I should be happy to get SC for free, but I'm a bit sad if this has a negative impact on its development. I've had high hopes on what SC2 would be when it was finished. Even though I'm a Kontakt 3 owner and use it a lot, I would've definitely had bought SC2 if it turned out to be what Kontakt 3 isn't...
I find the Sampler in Ableton Live to be incredibly slick and I think there would be a lot of interest in a VSTi like that. I was kinda waiting that this is what SC2 would've been. The Pitch/Osc page in the Ableton Sampler makes it incredibly powerful as a creative sampler-synthesizer kind of tool where you can transform any tiny sample into really impressive textures (I'm mainly talking about the FM osc with its own amplitude envelope). Can SC2 do FM?
But the big thing that would really gain an immediate and large following for SC would be the ability to actually sample. This is one thing that's constantly requested by Kontakt users, but I bet that it will never be implemented in Kontakt. This is also one thing that makes the Live Sampler so slick - you can drag and drop audio from the sequencer to the sampler. So if ShortCircuit 2 allowed either host drag'n'drop (not sure this is possible within the VST spec?) or maybe more realistically a "record" button with which you could record your computers output to a new sample, it would be an absolutely unique VSTi sampler. If it did this (and FM similar to the Live Sampler) I'm sure a lot of Kontakt users would become heavy SC users. I would certainly donate money to Vemberaudio (or possibly buy Surge as a donation) if SC2 did this...

It seems to me that there is no automation in SC1 too. At least in FLStudio, the option "automate last tweaked parameter" is greyed out.claes@vemberaudio wrote:I'd recommend that you try SC2 and see what you think. Stability wise there shouldn't be any major problems. Some things aren't really finished as much as I'd like and automation is missing but other than that is should be quite fine.
EDIT: Found that SC is to be automated through the modulation matrix, mod. sources auto00 - auto 31.
Linked auto00 to filter cutoff, then selected Browse Parameters in FL, then Edit Events for auto00 and drew some automation, but it still won't work!
What am I missing?

it works here in Energy-XT. Don't forget to set the intensity, which is the middle parameter.
To vember audio/creator of shortcircuit :
Thank you VERY much for this generous christmas gift.
I can't believe i didnt even look at this thing before. I tried SC free, but i couldnt get it to work. This thing just plain out rocks!! I haven't come across another sampler that can read akai S5000 programs this transparently!!
Just a few questions (to evryone):
1). Does SC stream samples from HD? This would be great!! If not, thats fine too. Thats what I have gigastudio for.
2). I can't get to load any samples in SC2. I tried that right click drag and it ownt work!
3). Is there a select by midi automatically? What I mean is that when I click on a key, the wave file gets selected in the edit window automatically rather than me having to click it.
4). Does SC automatically replace edited sample from external sample editor?? For ex : I'm messing with a loop, i want to time stretch it - i click on external editor, time stretch it there, and when I close the editor, i want sc to automatically replace the current sample with the edited sample. Posible?
I'm just sooo thrilled to have this. This is soo good for beat munging. It even has a fantastic slicer, and export to wavs!! Wow, I'm completely floored as you can guess from my post. This sampler fills up the gap that GS3 leaves!!

Mr.claes :
What are the features missing in Short Circuit 2 as it stands?? i.e. not the ones that you WANTED to implement, but the ones that are already there in SC2, but they're incomplete, like the modulation parameters.
The only ones I could spot are :
1). Beat slicer
2). Modulation
I plead that you complete these 2, as an added christmas present for us. I'm even ready to donate money for these 2 features, and I'm sure the others will too (maybe we should start a donation poll?)
Thank you for making SC1/2 free. Both are excellent and SC2 craves more attention than SC1.

I just figured this out. You have to go into shortcircuit 2 folder and drag any shortcuts to samples in the sample folder.2). I can't get to load any samples in SC2. I tried that right click drag and it ownt work!

keyman, where does your conversation quote come from?
The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right place, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.
