Which sample library companies offer to buy sample downloads? I live in Russia and is a big beaurocratic nightmare importing anything here. I know many libraries are gigabytes in size but still I am sure some companies offer downloads.

What kind of samples are you looking for? I know that many do still offer downloads. One of my favorites is:

They have some of the best pianos around, as well as some other things. But if you let us know what kind of sounds you want, maybe we can help further?

Oh, also try www.mi7libraries.com for a LARGE variety of sounds, including some soundsets that are pretty big. If you go to www.mi7.com and sign up for a user account there, you will get ten Euros of free spending at the mi7libraries.com site.

Sure, I'm after a good range of real instruument sounds and vocals leaning towards the ethnic/new age genres. I don't need any drum loops or synth sounds.

I need either the .sfz or kontakt formats, both pretty much translate well into each other.

Some interesting stuff on the sites you suggested!

Apart from sampletekk, precisionsound is my favourite download supplier.

They focus very much on ethnic instruments and vintage/toy stuff that is not readily found elsewhere! But they also have a series of heavily "pre-processed" modern-sounding libraries, covering choir voices, guitars, drums...

Edit: Also, look out for their freebies sprinkled around the site as a way to test the quality!

Harking back to the days when the soundfonts ruled supreme in the computer environment, the Sonic Implants (now SoniVox) site has a lot of generally lightweight, but VERY useable stuff for download:

Not only soundfont format, but a lot for the big software samplers (EXS, Giga, Kontakt) as well.

MI7 Libraries also has a lot of downloadable samples. You can even purchase individual samples if you don't want to purchase a whole set.

Dig into the free Kontakt instruments at http://www.boldersounds.com/ - some fantastic free, unusal instruments there including the new "suspended slate rocks"

www.prokits.co.uk also has sounds you can download, for Kontakt, Halion, SFZ and other formats. Very reasonbly priced, a few pounds per sound. They have interesting stuff (if I say so myself

). Its sort of a cooperative, with sounds by several different independent sound-designers. Listen to the demos, buy the sounds you want!

One of my favorites and not just because I provide content for this plug-in is www.samplebase.com.

Awesome free sample player with very affordable sample libraries that are so much more than just samples. The free virtual instrument "Satellite" can play back audio with real-time pitch and time streching (ala Live, Acid, Apple Loops) as well as play back REX (stereo) files. It can play 16 different patches and has 4 internal effects along with a killer multi-mode filter and flexible modulation to real-time slider abilities.... If you purchase the Satellite Pro application, you can load your own samples into the plug-in for some pretty insane sonic mayhem !

I have a Synth Pad library (Skippy's Magic Pads), A synth bass library (Skippy's Phat Bottom Basses) and a series of drum loops (Skippy's Beat Breakers).

You can download the Satellite virtual instrument for free along with the "Ignition" sound block which has a few patches from each of my libraries along with samples from many other libraries all for free.
