Goldbaby MPC60 vol.2: The best drum samples I've ever bought

No, I'm not exaggerating in that thread title to get attention. The Goldbaby MPC 60 vol.2 (Vinyl) drum sample set is the best collection I have purchased.

http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/thempc60page.html

I am primarily a breaks/big beat producer when it comes to original music & remixes, and I have consistently been on a quest for drum sounds that are phat, not sloppy, gritty but not unusable, tightly edited but not sterile, and 'large' in sound but not unusable in a mix. Some previous drum collections I have purchased (putting aside all the free stuff I have accumulated, which number in the thousands to tens of thousands of oneshot WAVs) -

* Battery 1-3
* Stylus RMX
* SR Sonik Capsules: Eclectic Drums, Studio Drums, Groove
* The Producer's Vault: Big Shots
* Soniccouture Abstrakt Breaks
* R.A.W. Universal Groove Kit
* Stormdrum
* Doru Malaia Superdrums 8000
* e-LAB Smoker's Delight
* e-LAB Foundation
* e-LAB Obsession
* Bob Clearmountain Drums II
* Steve Smith Rhythmic Journey
* Gota Yashiki Groove Activator
* FL Studio (default drum packs)
* Reason (dr.rex/redrum libraries)
* Countless samples from magazine CDs

So, as you can see, I like drums. But I am extremely picky and have previously (and repeatedly) challenged developers here to create a sample CD filled to the brim with breaks/big beat drum sounds to the specifications I described. No one stepped up to the plate.

With all that in mind, here I am saying this collection is AMAZING, and beats everything else I have. This is easily the best $14 I have ever spent on music gear; the sounds are all meticulously edited, the vast majority are highly usable, the tone is exactly perfect, there's no BS filler material, and the categorization & naming is excellent. No stupid "effected", processed, filtered, reverbed, or mangled drums, unlike tons of other drum sample CDs.

Check out this short demo I hacked together in 5 minutes, with NO processing other than a master track limiter:

Simply put there is nothing else in my collection that can sound like that with no processing/layering, and I have several folders on my hard drive of drum samples that I myself have crafted to the best of my ability to use in my own music!

So, for anyone doing breakbeat, big beat, hip hop, or any related genre, you MUST buy this collection. I probably would have paid 5x the list price had I known how good the material was before buying (the demos on the Goldbaby page reflect a fraction of what you actually get.) I'm inclined to pick up the Tape808 set now as well.

Ha, you deserve it :) I've told everyone I know about these, hope you get more sales out of it. Also you can definitely expect to hear these sounds on my next album release (I'm thinking some Crystal Method style stuff.)

Can't wait to get these drums!! I have so many BAD sample libraries.. their distorted, reverbed, and theres always at least one of the same sound in every catagory..

The demos on the site aren't amazing, but I will buy it.. :)

PS Thanks for the list!

I just bought Vol. 1 last night. Seems more useful for my needs than Vol. 2, though I may wind up picking it up too at that price.

Vol. 1 is inspiring :)

I picked up Vol 2 the other day. Pretty sweet! I hardly ever use synth drums or anything sourced from drum machines but I'm gonna have to start now.

Here's a request that I would really like to see (maybe others would too). How about doing the same sort of thing but through an SP1200. Other than the MPC60 that's the other essential old-school hip-hop sampler with a really distinctive character.

bought em all for da GURU

http://www.soundtempest.net/system.mp3 <- used 'em all over in this work-in-progress I started last night.

Hopefully I got you a few more sales, Goldbaby, I've been telling everyone I know and at least a couple people said they bought it. :)

It's definitely on my must-buy list. I picked up the Vintage Keyboard Breaks collection (an absolute STEAL at $10) and was floored by the production-readiness and audio-quality of those REX loops and wavs. I expected more or less a novelty pack and was absolutely blown away by how usable thy are, right out of the "box". Nicely done.

I almost hate recommending it though, because if no one else buys it, this would be the ultimate sonic secret weapon (in terms of loops) in my arsenal. ;)

I really need to ask this:

I use Linplug RMIV (well, just bought it used) and Kontakt 3. Should I go for the "samples only" version or the "battery" pack?

I'm sure Kontakt loads Battery kits but that maybe doesn't make much sense (depending on the fx used I'd guess), RMIV doesn't load Battery at all.

hmmm, I might have answered my question myself already :)
