For all you people who have been put off by the stories of bugs
and problems. It has all finished now.
In fact there is hardly a question asked on the infamous TI forum any more
concerning problems. Its fully developed. Reliable.

If you haven't been to your local music tech shop to hear the virus
i do suggest you go now. And be prepared to be impressed. This is for
me, the best synth of all time. it's versatility is incredible. I have owned so many and this is the one thats hit the perfection point.

It's alright.

I could never get over how so much of it's functionality is under the interface...if you don't want to go through menu hell you're stuck with pretty basic operations. The VST editor is great for seeing the synth's layout at once, but when you use a digital hardware synth's VST editor over it's physical interface for usability's sake you know something is a bit redundant there.

Sound-wise it's head and shoulders above A, B, and C though. Hypersaw ftw. Wouldn't nearly call it the best synth ever though.

can you provide more info? what host and platform are you tying into? we are still seeing the same plethora of problems running 2.5.1... i still think they are trying to cram too much data thru that puny USB1.1 hole.

edit: i just noticed on their site it says USB2.0 now - has that always been the case? if so, so much for my theory. guess back to my faulty OS theory then.

While im by no means a canditate to suggest that the virus is the best synth ever, I can totally agree that its sound is fantastic :tu:

It is leagues above any softsynth I have used and whenever I go on patch making sessions with it, I always seem to end up with something that sounds great, if not phenominal.

I have had my virus for roughly 6 months and have had pretty much flawless integration with cubase 4.

I also must agree with Chase - I do tend to end up using its vst editor for doing serious patch making, my use of the hardware its self usually ends up being nothing more than the cutoff knob and the envolopes, ocassionally the effects, which is a shame.

But at the end of the day its the sound that counts, and for me (being someone that likes to make my own sounds) its really handy to have a synth that allows you to feel your time was well spent. And most importantly make you smile :D when you play.

yes I too have been on hold to buy it. I am waiting for version 2 whcih will come with either firewire or usb2, hopefully.
I think a lot of the problems is their choice of usb 1.1

I'd agree that they would have made it easier for us all with USB2 or firewire as the interface. But in my opinion they do seem to have sorted it out on USB1.1.

I'm using Cubase Studio 4.1 all though i believe SX3.1 is the best and safer.

2GHz Core2 duo 4MB cache. 2G ram.

I dont use the TI as the main audio interface. The TI sends audio in to Cubase but does not receive it. Which i think is the best option and one which most users will go for. The audio processing in the TI is only 16bit.
The Audio interface i use is a M-Audio Firewire 210.

My only notice of any glitch is when occasionally my pc cpu will jump causing the TI to go out of sync but the TI recovers after a second or two. But this is more a problem with my laptop not being fully music tuned yet. This mainly occurs when a few bars are constantly repeated and the cursor returns to the beginning from the end of the repeated bars in cyclic playback. Cubase seems to be a bit active then. Probably looking for data changes further upstream. And sending those changes to the TI interface. However this only occasionally occurs.
Standard playback from song beginning to end is perfect. I don't think though that the TI likes an over stretched cpu. But that would be expected.

The TI is an addictive machine. There are few who are not taken in by it. Even my mom was impressed! gawd. The ARP's when used across multi parts can make fantastic backing tracks to develop on. Getting away from the cliche ARP with a bit of thought.

Personally i feel that waiting for the mark2 TI is going to be a long wait and not needed. I have many VSTi's and sitting with them the TI stands completely above them in quality. The filters on the TI are one of the key factors.

A resonating TI filter is something you gotta hear.

I have, but no thanks. I prefer my Nord Rack 2X and Microwave (1) when it comes to filter quality.
Virus TI is indeed a lovely sounding and very powerful synth. But my Nord Rack gives me the best classic additive synthesis (+ a touch of FM), my Microwave gives me the best wavetable synthesis, my TG77 gives me the best FM synthesis, and as for other things, I get them from some great software synths (physical modeling - Tassman, classic modular synthesis - VAZ Modular, guitar synth - Revitar 2, HCM synthesis - FireBird, and more). So Virus TI doesn't really have much to offer me, although it is a great synth, and the best one for someone who needs a LOT of synthesis features packed up nicely.

What sets the sound apart from other hardware and software?

Is it the oscillator or filter algorithms, modulation routings, effects? There are hundreds of virtual analogues out there and with enough programming skill you can coax some "phat" sounds out of most of them. It seems to be a fairly standard 3-osc+2 filters design with a few LFO's and Env's and a good effects section... What defines the "Virus" sound?

I'm thinking about buying myself a used Virus A/B/C but I'm not sure.. Last time I bought a hardware synth (Novation Nova) I found that while it sounded very good, my software sounded just as good and I didn't have to go through all the hassle with audio inputs, multiple parts, program change messages etc. So I ended up shelving and eventually selling it...

I don't know. A couple of years ago I had a Virus B and I could have sworn that it sounded 'warmer' and less clean (in a good way) than the Ti. Sadly, I sold the B, so I can't compare them anymore. Maybe it's just my ears that got used to the Virus sound.
