The Steven Slate Drums 2.0 Signature Drumkit that is based on the sounds of Neil Peart and Rush is done. Except one problem. I sampled an 8 inch tom to make a set of 8, 10. 12, 14, and 16 toms. But the way our kits are mapped there are only room for four toms and the extra is going to drive my programmer insane. So lets put it out there... Do we really need the 8 inch tom???????

It's nice to have, but I'd rather see this being released sooner with 4 toms than later with 5 toms and requisite programming headaches. My 2 cents.

Have you thought about making the kits available separately, in addition to the full set of DVDs?

Unfortunately we have no immediate plans for seperate kits because it basically gives the fist to our retailers who do not have the ability to sell individual drumkits. But I can assure you it will be priced fairly and there will not be a kit included that you won't want! At least thats what I hope!

some updates...
Drumkit inspired by Greenday (a hybrid of three of their albums):
www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo2/GREENDAY.wav
And because we got bored...we bring you Lars Ulrich playing for Greenday (we used the "BlackMetal" kit inspired by the Metallica Black Album:
www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo2/GREENMETAL.wav
Hey who wants to help us with the Dream Theater demo? How about we throw in a FREE 2.0 package when it comes out, or if you wanna play and you already own 1.5, a free upgrade (unless you are an original 1.0 owner where its free anyway).
Rules are:
Using guitars, maybe keys, bass, and some programmed drums, make a song that sounds similar in vein to a Dream Theater song off systematic chaos. Then send us a link to the mp3 at support@stevenslatedrums.com If you get chosen, you'll need to send us all the tracks

another Steven Slate Drums 2.0 Signature Drumkits "MODEL" demo, REQUESTED by the KVR guys..
This one is modeled after TOMMY LEE on Motley Crue Primal Scream. I took the liberty of updating the sound by using real room reverb mixed with synthetic room and processing with various toys and gates of course to give my version of the GATED VERB sound from the 80s. This effect will also be on the toms for this kit. Kick was modeled after his 24" monster kick with real room verb.
inspired by Tommy Lee on Motley Crue "Primal Scream".. still beta and being tweaked...

WOW. if I haven't said so already, these are exactly what snares sound like in my head, in the same planet where women feed me grapes and money flows like water in my backyard. Great job, Steven.

This is a really interesting product. Cool idea Steven
What I'd love to hear are the Soundgarden (always loved his snare) and Tool (love everything about his kit) sounds. No hurry though

Hey, Steven,
Any chance you'd consider doing a book or downloadable e-book on drum production techniques?
I don't doubt that you'd make tons of sales just through KVR alone...
If not, no big deal, but just THINK of the bad karma!! (Just kidding - you and your team are a great bunch to deal with, e-books aside!)

Steven -
Great job so far. The demos got me right where I live. I want to hear the Peart/Rush demo when it's available. Also, if I could put in a request...*drum roll*...Stewart Copeland.

We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

If I may make a suggestion, and while you're still tweaking: Sounds to me like Tommy hits rimshots (head and rim simultaneously) on the snare the whole time, which gives it a very distinctive "bark", if you know what I mean.
Maybe you could sample such a hit and wrap it in the same EQ/verb/compression you've got for this kit? Whaddaya think?

Hey guys, few updates:
Tool kit is underway. Danny's a close friend of a friend of mine so I'll hopefully have his feedback. I did originally intend to do a SoundGarden kit as well, we'll see if it makes the original cut.
The Motley Crue kit is VERY Beta. In fact I just sampled another 24" kick and the sound is much rounder and more authentic to the kick sound on Primal Scream and I'll have it in demo form soon. The snare I made for the Crue kit is a much more modernized sound of that 80s hairband gated verb snare, BUT, I'm still thinking again about making something more authentic to that actual snare.
I just filmed a fabulous drum micing, tracking, and mixing tutorial in association with Audix microphones (I used a ton of audix mics on the samples btw) and it'll be out soon. Its definitely not your average pro audio tutorial, thats all I'll say for now. Thanks so much to the KVR guys for your feedback, 2.0 is all about customer needs and its been so helpful to have you guys on board.
