I just got this free Sonic Synth with a book I just bought
called Acoustic and MIDI Orchestration for the Contemporary Composer by Andrea Perjolo and Richard DeRosa.

It does not install correctly on WinXP(sp2) as the SS2 Instruments folder is always left empty, you have to manually copy its contents from the CD and put them in there yourself. You also have to change the root directory to point to the main folder called "SonikSynth 2 Free" in order to access the SS2 Intruments folder from the tree in the SS2 Browser's window, and not directly to the SS2 Instruments as it is done in default install. Otherwise, no go. And after all that, if you reset the path to SS2 Instruments directly, then it will work with out the tree, but not if you just do it straight away afrter install. Confusing? You bet ya.

I have had SampleTank2XL for years so was familiar with the methods, but new potential customers must be lost...

If I am correct about this, I doubt if this is good advertising for IK, whom I respect and like. 8)

sorry, but your post was confusing. what exactly is the problem? is it not working at all, or did you get it working after fiddling with the directory structure and just want to vent about the installation process?

More to the point, is it a full version, or a chopped version of SS2 that comes with it? I'd assume it'd be the free version at the price the book goes for.
