I'm looking for what's in the title.

Anyone have any suggestions?

This one seems decent:

I'm not sure why midi orchestration would be any different from regular orchestration.

If you know how to orchestrate (is it a transitive verb? I don't know) and you know how to caress virtual instruments into sounding like orchestral instruments then you're set.

I would think that learning those two things independently would be a much more sane and complete way of tackling that immense project.

You might be right, but a number of "producers" (not sure I like this word) would like a one-stop shop for getting into the orchestral composition game, without hiring an orchestra.

I think it makes logical sense from that perspective to put both subjects together, although maybe it's biting off too much at once.

Also, I don't know of any books that only deal with the 2nd topic you mentioned.

Henri Mancini released "Sounds and Scores" which is useful for orchestration ideas and comes with CDs. You'd need to be able to read scores in conventional notation.
