The controls in M-Drive are conceptually a bit odd. The threshold control sets the volume level after which the distortion will occur. So when set fully left the whole wave will pass through the shaper, when set fully right none of the wave will pass through the shaper. It has been noted that when the threshold control is fully the distortion effect disappears, this is unfortunately a bug.
The clipshape control determines the type of distortion applied, and is continuously variable between hard digital clipping (fully left) and soft saturation (fully right). The best thing to do is set both controls to 50%, and then vary the threshold control till you get the amount of effect that you want - then set the clipshape control till you get the right sort of distortion "character".
