Guido, would it be possible though to have the Piano Age feature emulate the imperfections in the dynamic response from key to key? It seems to me like that's the best way of pleasing both camps.

But yeah, you're right. I think people who own a real Rhodes are expecting a certain level of imperfections, whereas people who are used to idealized versions would be shocked at the inconsistency of doing so. I think that's why the Piano Age feature would be the best.

As far as bugs go, the only problem I had was already posted above about it not loading in Sonar at all. I look forward to this one Guido.

Thank you FET,
I accept your advice about the 'piano age' feature, and if my head doesn't blow up, I'll try to make something tonight :D

Just another little example on how hard is dealing with simulations: a while back a guy reported me a problem with VB3, he said "when I hold a chord on high notes and then I play some low notes, the high notes' volume drops down".

If you have ever sat at a real Hammond you'd know that this is exactly how the Leslie behaves, especially at a high volume. Also, this is normal for many other instruments and amplifying systems out there.

BUT, if the guy would have listened to a real Hammond doing that, he would have done like this smiley :o and would have said "wow, what a nice effect!"... Instead, when you know that a simulation is not real, and everything it does is wanted by its creator, you always tend to think "this is a mistake"...

It's hard to explain such concepts in english for me, I hope this was clear enough.

Ok, back to the code now

I'm having some CPU load problems with the plugin in Ableton Live. When I play at high key velocity, the CPU load goes way over 100%. Live doesn't crash, I can simply remove MrRay73 and the CPU goes back to normal.

I've tested this in both Ableton Live 6.010 and 7.01, both have the same behaviour.

I like the sound (I've got a a MkI myself :) ), although it could be way more aggressive when played at higher velocities.

Cheers,

Gijs

- Added: 4 velocity curves
- Added: text "waiting for incoming MIDI data..." for MIDI learn
- Added: MIDI Leaarn abort (click the first menu item - Parameter name)
- Added: MIDI Forget (click the second menu item - Current CC#)
- Fixed: limited maximum waveforms width
- To-Do: include a preset bank
- To-Do: improve the "Piano Age" feature
- To-Do: include the "velocity curve" parameter within the preset parameters

Still doesn't load in Sonar, but the added curves do improve the response.

How do you load it in Sonar? Do you use the DXi wrapper?
I have a Sonar LE somewhere (maybe it's installed on my laptop...) I have to try...

Is there any known reason why a VST instrument shouldn't load in Sonar? Did this already happen with other instruments?

I love all your work Guido! The Mr Ray 73 mkII is positively killer! Piano age - really cool and almost seems to have an impact on the virtual action or feel of the keyboard!

The dynamic control is really amazing - I'm not sure what it's doing but has an amazing effect on the sound!

I hope that the final version has more than eight presets.

I've never really understood the Linear, Natural, Hard and Really Hard settings. I would say the Linear sounds really hard, the Natural sounds linear, the Hard sounds natural . . . . at any rate the sound does not seem to match the label; perhaps I'm missing something?

Anyway, runs like a charm on my brand new Dell Inspiron 520 Core2Duo 2.0 system with Win XP Home with SP2 using Tracktion 3.0.3.3... quick response, no clicks no pops, brilliant sounding as usual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps a package price on VB3 and 73mkII??

I hope you bring this out at a price I can afford 8)

Sonar now has VST integration "built-in" (i.e. no more wrapper) and works more like other VST hosts in that it does a scan for any new plugins upon startup. For some reason it is not recognizing Mr. Ray Mark II as a plugin.

Oh, man, this is beautiful already, Guido! :hail:  :hail:  :hail:

no more wrapper in Sonar 7, the VST scan simply ignores the plugin, so you cant "add" it to a project.

Anyone testing on Receptor?

So there's no chance for me to make this test because I don't have Sonar 7.
Also, since native support of VST is new for Sonar, isn't there any chance that the problem is not due to MrRay? That's why I asked: "did this already happen with other plugins?"...

I haven't seen this with any other plugins yet. You may want to contact Cakewalk about getting an NFR copy of Sonar to test on (it seems they're pretty good about that when it comes to developers). Also just as an FYI, Mr. Ray, Mr. Tramp, and GS-201 load fine.

MrRay 73 Mk 2 sounds very good Guido. Dynamics and velocity curve controls make dialing in a response to suit the player and keyboard a piece of cake. Graphics and FX are very good - trem sounds pretty authentic to me.

Just a quick test so far and its working fine in eXT2.
