This topic concerns stomp box pedal boards.
I recently gave up my POD XTL for a Sansamp GT2 and several other Boss pedals for my sound. While less flexible I found I can get much better tone out of a more analog signal.
I am wondering how people go about using their boards in a live situation. Do you tap dance to get from a distorted delay sound to a clean chorus sound? Do you have a midi setup to simplify switching? Or something else?
How do you use your pedal board?

and ls2's (boss line selector) are invaluable tools to get multiple chains switched ( and even in parallel)
if i were rich (and still gigging) i'd get a huge blade switching system or something in the likes (i need a 18 ports switcher, probably need to go custom for that size)

I don't play live but I jam with my own backing tracks in my studio as a way to practice and it also helps me phrase better when more parts of my body are having to do something rhythmically. Lately I've been going deeper into a Boss GT-8 and doing 4 variations of a patch per bank (so there's one footswitch per variation right in front of me). So I might have a basic chorus + delay + reverb in slot 1, then the same thing exactly in slot two but with a variant delay setting of some kind or perhaps just a mix level adjustment on some of the wet parameters. And so forth...
I've cut out most of the amp modeling and cabinet modeling in these patches and just let the actual amp do that part.
As of today, I've got to go back and delete all the Boss compressor settings in all my staple patches since I'm replacing that with better gear. Luckily I don't have need for ton of sounds, just the ability to turn off verbs and delays.
I'm kinda back into wah-wahs again now on clean and semi-clean sounds. The Boss one is very versatile but I'm probably going to get a Wah-Probe because I like how they allow for faster flutters than you can reasonably do with a rocking motion on a regular wah. There's just something really strange about how a wah rocks on that fulcrum that makes it hard to do 16th note patterns. Plus the tone is killer.

since i really like to talk about my pedalboards
first of was a GE7 eq followed by the mighty boss FZ2 in fuzz2 mode
i used 2 ls2 in my last setup, one just to bypass the boss v-wha (which has a bastard switching delay which makes just silence for a fraction of a second, I actually really like it since i can set the tone with the immobile wha and switch to it( and i used the uni-V on it too))
the wha was preceded by a dd3, allowing me to get the delay to self oscillation and filter it with the wha)
the other half of it was a danelectro rocky road (really bad bypass forced me to do that, it was ruining al the cleans) followed by a boutique clone of a tonebender)
those 2 were sometimes even used in parallel (dirty chorusy sound paired with nasal wha tone)
then nother ls2, this one with a kp2 on one sice(kp2 on on the floor in the PB, played with foot) and the other line was an akai mfc 42 filter with some stomps before, inside and after(syb3-mfc42 mono in panned to the left-left out in a blue box-right in of the stereo filter-right out-MXR dynacomp)
following them was a DS1 and XT2, feeding a DD5 into 2 fender pro Jr. (one of them having the MXR line booster or something) miked in stereo
the wholo thing was 3 1/2 feet wide and maybe 18 inches, i tcontained all pedal (except the mfc42 and it's stomps and the kaoss)
unfortunately it's being scavenged to build others and i don't have a fully operational pic
i had 1 psu per pedal, no daisy chaining(was making buzz/ground problem) that's why it had 3 powerbars

Some years ago I've put my Boss ME-10 programmable multi-effects away, and bought a simple overdrive pedal (the Tech-21 Tri-OD) and Boss BF-2 flanger. It's back to tapdancing and bowing to change settings, but sound-wise it's a huge improvement!

Honestly, I agree with you. When I use my simple analog rig, I always end up with something I want to record right away. Gotta get things set up so that I can actually do that soon. It's killing me to get an idea and have to record it with modeling just to preserve the idea (I can't remember squat otherwise. I can literally stop to go have a sandwich and forget cool stuff no matter how catchy it is).
