The question to me is,,, if I have the Squids Tron Collection 1, and I can buy Squids Tron Collection 2,,, wouldn't SampleTron be redunant at that point??

Did you ever consider doing the Tron Collections as Capsules??

Beergeek,,,, why not buy the Squids Tron Collection now??? You could use your epointz, (to clear your account for more) and wait to see if getting STC 2 or SampleTron crossgrade offers the better deal. Immediate gratification,,,

Personally, if I had my choice, I would rather be able to run the Tron Collections in more than one format, too. I really love Sampletank, but there are some reasons for running sounds in other platforms,,,, and let's face it,,, Trons are a bit of a specialty interest.

Just my 2 cents. I'll be watching to see how this developes, because I would like more Trons.

hmmm ... does that mean there could eventually be a Kontakt version of Trons?

:)

I'd love to go for it, but I really couldn't get into Sampletank everytime I demoed it.

As far as Squids Tron, yes we're planning on offering it in Kontakt for download only on www.esoundz.com

But, SampleTron itself is different. While the samples are from Squids Tron Vol. 1 and 2 the programming and use of the engine is unique to itself (and the look, stand alone and plug-in operation etc.)

mamma :-o you got me.

Is all of it going to be available in Kontakt format - meaning SampleTron samples and Squids Tron Collections I&II?

That would really be cool (even cooler if you can get someone to program patches to use some of the K2/K3 possibilities to the max)

:)

p.s.: download is fine by me, much better than waiting for dvds.

Woah, I had to edit some of your rant there for reasons that should be obvious to you. This is an SR forum but it's also a public forum and there are politics to consider...

But, to clarify something, Squids Tron Vol. 1 was in SampleTank format only. I've always said we would eventually do Squids Tron Vol. 1 in other formats like Reason and maybe even SFZ, Kontakt and others. That's finally happening this month!

Regarding Squids Tron Vol. 2, that ISN'T coming out in SampleTank format because if you want that you can get SampleTron which has the best of Squids Tron Vol. 1 and ALL of Squids Tron Vol. 2 in it for even cheaper than getting them both in other formats... but it will be a more widespread marketed product (a little less specialty... even though it is still specialty). BUT, the sounds are in SampleTank format for SampleTron so we're giving a special set of tron sounds away for pre-ordering this month that should give you a taste of what's to come.

In the case of "Why not get Squids Tron Vol. 1 and 2 in another format instead?" This is something anyone can do if they wanted to. It's a little more expensive to go that route but not too bad (around $100 more... but you do get more samples - namely the "Q" stuff and the extras from V1 like the toy piano and harmonium... but you don't get SampleTron's extras like the Stylophone however but Squids Rare Instruments which is coming in 2008 will have that along with all that other crazy stuff we talked about before such as Marxophones, Cymbelets, Claviolines etc.)

Now, what if (and I know this will be the case for many) you want to have BOTH SampleTron (whether you want the GUI/app or simply all the sounds in ST2 format plus the extras it has AND it's particular programming which is unique to itself) and Squids Tron Vol. 1 and/or 2 in another format such as Reason or Kontakt... well, like always on esoundz you can get a crossgrade discount! We have a system that will detect if you already own an item that qualifies you (only if you bought it from esoundz) and if you did then it will automatically give you the crossgrade price when you login. We don't have this system perfected just yet in all cases so there's always the good old fashioned way which is emailing sales (at) esoundz and asking for a crossgrade deal or bundle discount if you are buying at the same time. One can always do that for a custom situation that suits you!

I know it is a little confusing but it's not really that hard to figure out and I think more people will appreciate the options. If someone wants to just go for the better deal price-wise that's easy. It's SampleTron.

1. Squids Tron Vol. 1 & 2 have ALL of SampleTron's "Tron" samples and is only missing some of the "extras" like the Stylophone and 360 Systems Digital Tron. However those sounds will be available in "Squids Rare Instruments" coming out next year which will have all kinds of other wacky rare instruments too.

2. Squids Tron V1 + V2 in other formats like Reason and Kontakt will of course not have any of the SampleTron programming that is based on the SampleTank engine (particular effects like spring reverbs, MXR modeled phasers etc.)

3. The patch programming for Squids Tron in other formats is very basic and more like the original (apart from the sounds being offered looped as well as cutting off like the original). It certainly won't be using that engine to the max but YOU could if you wanted to. It's a "more samples but less patches" kind of thing.

Still... it will be pretty darn cool no matter what you get! Again, I think that part of what is great is the samples and part of what is great are the particular vintage patches in SampleTron that only come with the plug-in. The sound of the engine itself suits it (like we did with SampleMoog). But it's up to you guys what formats you want to use our sounds in as we're expanding because of the new beefed up download section of esoundz. Theoretically we could do any of our sounds in ANY format as long as there is a demand for it. So we're going to start taking requests on the site for that. In the meantime we use this forum for that kind of feedback.

oops,,, sorry about that,,, It wasn't meant as a rant,,, but I understand the edit... it's all good.

thanks for clarifying.

No doubt about it :)

Here's my thing Dale....besides the fact that the gui is cool looking :hihi: it has patches that use the SampleTank engine and since I have ST2.5, I can load them up in one interface with my other stuff.

ST2.5 just became a truly wicked workstation, at least for me....my workstation will have loaded in it:

ST2XL, 6 Capsules, 6 Expansion Tanks, Miroslav, Sonik Synth and coming soon SampleTron :-o

All of that loaded into one workstation, ay carumba, the layering possibilities are freakin' staggering! AND consider that all but the capsules have patches optimized for MY workstation. They become WAY more than samples then. It's like having Squids and company as your custom workstation programmers ;-)

I guess I will have to buy SampleMoog after all so I have those sounds too :hihi:
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

Also SampleTron looks too cool not to have. All of those Tron knobs? It's inspiring. :D

Oh, I think what we're going to do is include a bunch of extra material in Squids Tron Vol. 2 that isn't in SampleTron such as the rest of the 360 Systems Keyboard and extra Optigan, Powerhouse and Talentmaker... maybe even some Fairlight CMI. We have to keep this stuff interesting. So this way each product will have something the other doesn't have and if you want it all then crossgrade discounts take effect and even though you may pay more you will at least get more material AND different format options. In the end, it's pretty custom to each person's particular love for quirky instruments and more will be done for that cause than any other sound developer has dedicated... but that's because I too love this stuff and this little esoteric market we have for it justifies the work which I benefit as a musician from as well so... I am all for it.

Oh... an esoundz LISTEN DOWNLOAD PLAY T-Shirt for the group buy?

Post

I'm so confused.

I have Squids Tron V1, which I have been using with SampleTank 2LE. After much waiting, we were told Tron V2 wouldn't be coming out, instead there would be SampleTron, which would have the best of V1, plus the stuff that was going to be in V2. We were also told SampleTron would be able to use the Tron V1 sounds that didn't make it into SampleTron (some of the quirky Trons, the Jon Brion Harmonium, toy piano).

Now I see V2 is indeed coming, as a separate product from SampleTron, but V2 will not have the Stylophone and other "non-Tron" sounds from SampleTron - however, those sounds may show up in a Squids "weird stuff" collection later.

So here are my questions:

1. Will Tron V1 users still be able to use those "leftover" sounds in SampleTron as promised?

2. Will V2 cost less than SampleTron, since it's fewer sounds and no engine?

3. Will the weird instruments collection be sounds in SampleTank format or a standalone SampleTank based Sonik Instrument?

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. Yes and No on the Sonik Instrument

4. I always said there would be a Squids Tron Vol. 2 which would be in other formats such as Reason and Kontakt. But, since we brought up doing a group buy we'd have to include SampleTank as well (because of the first group buy on it).

So in order to spice it up there will be yet some MORE unique sounds that are only in Squids Tron Vol. 2 (particularly sounds that were too weird to make it to SampleTron basically... but chances are you guys will still like them as do I...I mean things like a 360 Systems Bass or Electric Guitar sound... most people would say "What the heck is this?" and some people would say "I LOVE this crappy little 8 bit sound!!!!". There's a fine line. At least the regular tron sounds were used on famous albums but some of these OTHER sounds are so rare that most people have never heard them... not that they're all good either but... I mean they ARE all good in a WAY if you know what I mean. It's all perspective when it comes to lofi. One man's trash is another man's gold. If you want it ALL (including the Q stuff from V1, the outtakes from SampleTron then this way you can get it all - and in multiple formats).

Okay, I'm less confused now - thanks Squids.

Glad you are,,, I'm more confused,,, here he says he going to do the Sampletank version for the GB, and on the SS GB thread, he says Trons might not be part of the GB.

Squids is teasing us. :hihi:

Not teasing, just undecided. Back to back Group Buy is already something we're doing to do (first SS2 which just ended and now Miroslav). But, to not only do that but do a DOUBLE group buy... well, that's even crazier but we MIGHT do it. IF we do for Squids Tron Vol. 1 or 2 then it WILL be in SampleTank format and have extra sounds that are outtakes from SampleTron (in V2). If we DON'T do it then those outtakes might be available separately as a purchasable download anyway and Squids Tron Vol. 1 & 2 would be available as downloadable products in OTHER formats such as Reason, Kontakt etc. (maybe Wusik and SFZ).

But don't worry! IF we do the Tron group buy now then I will RE-explain it and specify what is where and what isn't.
