I have eeePC finally and so far my impressions are:
- it's very small
- keyboard is small as well but quite usable
- LCD screen could be bigger but I don't have complaints about its quality
- boot up time using build in oses is awesome, to boot it takes less than 15 seconds
- CPU IS NOT clocked at 900MHz! It's rated to be 900MHz part but bios sets it to 630MHz only. It can be run at 900MHz using an unstable bios. It'd should be fixed with newer bioses.
- touchpad is pretty good and reliable despite its small size
- it's virtually silent unless build in CPU's fan starts. It isn't loud but could have pitched sound and it contrast with silentness when it doesn't run.
- build in audio quality is decent (including build in speakers - not terrible for such small units)
- you can put in to 2GB of RAM and SDHC flash cards with 8GB (perhaps even more)
- you can connect external VGA monitor and quality is very good (1280x1024 is fine)
- you can connect external keyboard and mouse of course
Summing it all up - I like eeePC. My biggest complain is that CPU's fan - it shouldn't be there. When it doesn't run eeePC is silent as silence. When it starts you are going to notice.
You will be able to get some DAW mileage from eeePC however it's not a replacement for "normal" notebooks. Yet it does feel like it could... well... almost.
It's a turn in good direction thought.

that unlocks the higher res. for the screen!

Ok - call me crazy - but I'm thinking of picking up one of these for running a couple live softsynths.
Can you test out some hosting apps like vsthost at low latencies?
I'm waiting for the new higher res models to ship...

yeah, Ive got Tobybear Minihost installed, as well as ASIO4All. Ive tried out KarmaFX on it and it seemed to be fine, except for being too large for the screen. One slight quirk; ASIO4All reports the inputs as being 16-bit and the outputs as 32-bit. Im not sure where they got 32-bit DACs from though.

I've been looking at the eee since apple released the macbook air and I realised I'll never be able to afford one 
All I'll need to do on it, audio-wise is record about 8 tracks of dry audio.
I can copy the tracks (hopefully) into logic for mixing and adding effects etc.
Has anyone had any success trying to do anything similar?

Not tried my ReMote with it, cant imagine it'd be an issue though. I'll try and get a chance this week.
