yes, there's something so intrinsically natural about a dial and 2-line LED screen. as long as you've got 'next' and 'previous' buttons, of course.

Well, I do agree that there are lots of misconceptions here about hardware VAs being superior, like the DACs things, for example. And I agree that I misread some of these posts, so I apologize for saying that it's attacking people who prefer hardware.

But this:

I think it is purely preference. For example, some people just don't want to bother with the computer when they play with their synths, and they feel that this is more natural to them (not that I'm saying this is the case here). I don't see any problem with that.
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

sorry, i know what you mean about how people prefer things, but i was just amused by the reference to 'natural' as a description of something so wholly abstract as an LCD screen and parameter dial, something that evolved almost entirely from budgetary constraints rather than usability decisions or ergonomic design. my apologies for being misleadingly flippant.

Troll back to your cave and stop highjacking my thread with useless comments . If you want soft vs hard open your own thread and confine your ignorance there. I JUST DO NOT CARE. Now FETCH!

Can anyone confirm that it's built on an ITX platform?

Ah, the old 'its my thread and I'll tell you who can post in it' gambit. That one's a surefire winner round here.

awww, diddums. is ickle wickle kilon in a stroppy-wopp now?

Oh, and, for the record, I bet you Ive got more hardware than most people here at KVR. So Im agnostic, unlike yourself. Maybe if you didnt start 'soft vs hard' discussions you wouldnt need to twist your knickers about them so much.

thats a completely arbitrary distinction between 'patch' and 'synth' that the G2 itself doesnt make. in case you'd forgotten, the G2 editor refers to what you're calling 'synths' as 'patches'.
unless you can point out a mechanism for saving the state of the parameters of a 'synth' separately from its structure as per anything else using the term 'patch'.
yes you can 4 * 8 in total... there is even a parameter morpher
i have those. it's not dedicated, i do use it regulary and happy they excist. it makes life better, but mostof the time it is NOT the most elegant and ergonomic way of working... it's good for dj sets and modulating some filter or so... but please let' not try to switch filtertype ina plug-in witha bcr2000
Dont use a bcr2000 then. I use a ReMote which is good for more than 'dj sets and modulating some filters'. Oh, and strangely lets me switch filter types on plugins like impOSCar et.c.
well, that's nice then, i realy like my BCR2000 for live tweaking of certain parameters during a more live set-up/performance... but even teh Remote willalways feel like an ad hoc 'impractical' solution to program synths.
but i agree, for the laptop and only softsynth user it is a great asset to have a controller like that
i DO use the CPU fully ... but most of the time it's just not enough and i loose flexibility cause i have to bounce to audio. not a problem but with hardware i save CPU and averything stays tweakable
i think so too. and a main problem withhardware is the cost. it is expensive... and to make great music you can absolutely do without. it is up to the user/musician to decide wether the extra cost is worth it... some harware devices are true gems made with as much dedication as the best softsynths around (i'm talking about more small companys mostly, like waldorf, Radical ec etc.). some people need to connect to an instrument to get to that phase were your music gets unic and stands out. this has probably more o do with psychology and workflow then technology, but for me it is an argument sometimes overlooked.

so maybe we can summarize:

no dioubt the demo's we've heard from the blofeld are superb, and we canonly hope they reflect the true nature of the blofeld once we get our hand on it.

for people who like an instrument they can physicly abuse or give hugs (even if itjust a software in a box) this seems an affordable yet pro-sounding and very capable synth (spec wise). lots of goodies for the people who witnissed the famous waldorf insruments from years back (read. some DSP settings to make it sound waldorfian ;-))

and maybe most importantly: it consumes 0 cpu from you main DAW which can now still run it's own synthesis or heavy efx routings.

is the synthesis in this blofeld superior to 'softsynts'? most likely not, deuuh.

OK let us do this a software vs hardware thread since you feel so bored with your life.

No they are not.As most demos of Soft and Hard synths.

(even if it just a software in a box)
No it is not. it is a powerful computer with included very powerful software and a portable , compact midi controller.

correct

correct

I happened to own a MICROKORG a software in abox as you may call it. This thing had a very limited polyphony and very simplistic sound synthesis. But I can tell you right now that it was the fastest way to BASS n WARMTH street. I sold the little devil because I wanted more complexity and naturality in my sounds. But the point is that I did several compares between the softs (TERA3 , ABsynth and FM7) and MicroKORG. The sine waves were almost equal , modulation was the same bla blah and then the filters came and it Went bye bye. MicroKorg almost destroyed one of my monitors the sounds ware so evil and bassy they took me under surprise (some of them).

I am not disputing the fact here that both in the end are just softwares . This may be true or it may be not true. I am no expert on this filed. Maybe the hardware affects the sound maybe it does not. But One thing is certain .It took me alot more processing with software to come close to this kind of bass which the MicroKorg so gratiously offered me through its filters.

Now using Hardware is not a mandatory choice afterall we are talking synthesizers here and that means whether is soft or hard is a very powerful tool that should allow the creation of any kind of sound.

Still as I said for someone that like to twist knobs and hates mouse and does not care about computer graphics and big screens, hard is the way to go, period. Also i Find that presets in soft lack alot cause it use of course much less cpu than a hard synth. But of course that is changing after the appearance of Dual Core processors. Still mutitimbral presets are not so common in soft synths.

Unfortunately, some people, particular nuffink, have nothing better to do than post in the hardware forum about how hardware is only "software in a box" and how hardware is not better than software.

Clearly, if you've got nothing better to do than post bullshit in a thread that holds absolutely no interest to you, then you are a troll.

Back on topic:

I like the look of this thing. If it's cheaper here than a desktop DSI evolver, i'll buy it. It's really inexpensive for what it is. Looks like fun :)

Back on the other topic:

Hardware, software, whatever.

I would have voted but there wasn't anything below 3 as a selection. I'm looking for something closer to zero.
