I don't agree about the opto and dry/wet position.

Opto is affecting the release and can be seen as a "release3" knob.

Dry/wet is more close to the ratio function so they would make a nice couple
regarding how hard you want to affect the processed signal.

Hi Daniel,

I tried to use the other amp limiter (2095) hich had two release knobs. But I have no idea how to dial in those. What does the 2nd release do, what does the first one do, and what is the relation ship between these two knobs?

Or is there some online manual about how to use these machines; I haven't used one before.

OK, I get it! It seemed counterintuitive to me because Opto seems like an "initial configuration" and wet/dry an output option.

It reminds me of the logic behind old faders on british consoles, the kind that operate in the reverse manner from the norm...the idea being that you "push" the sound away from you and "pull" it toward you.

Daniel the new gui is a visual improvement! Like the cleaner font, better spacing and inset controls. SC monitoring is a bonus!

The fact that opto has varing speed is great. If it was a switch I would wonder if it would work before Dry/Wet. Hopefully it works where it is.

release1 controls the time it takes the amount of compression to drop to a certain value - and from there to zero its release2 :-)

Post

Nope.

Release1 control the over all speed of the release where release2 will
slow down fast movements in the envelope curve and not bother with the
"decent" parts.

:? so it's very different to the two release stages of e.g. old opto-compressors
and instead release 2 is highly program-dependent?

Odd - I manage to make good use of both controls even though it seems I totally misunderstood the underlying functions...

2095, release 2 kind of affects the kind of "light sensitive element" the virtual "opto mechanism" has. At least this is how I have always thought about it. As you know an optical compressor works with a light and a light sensitive element which then controls the amplifier/gain reduction. So, chaning the release 2 knob you get a different kind of "dissipation" for the light sensitive element which either increases the "memory" effect or decreases it (aka, faster and reacts to more material).

.. which means, what the hell is the additional "opto" knob then on the new 2094?? :D

Probably I've described all this completely wrong but who cares! Just twiddle those knobs and make your wife yealous! :hihi:

Cheers!

You see, most blokes, when they're compressing they got one or two releases. You've got your releases, all the way up, all the way up, you've got the attack maxed out...where can you go from there? Where? Nowhere. What the 2094 does is, if I need that extra push over the cliff, you know what I do? I dial in that third release. It's one more release.
