For me its not the skin that makes the plugin (as I'm mostly looking at my fingering :D)..

Daniel please keep all the features from the latest version on there!

That's stupid.

If skins wouldn't matter, nobody would put much effort in ergonomics and controls' behaviour; both determining what's usually called 'feel' and usually results in 'ease of use' factor. The rest being 'look'.

You may not care about it, on certain (not even corporate caliber) software projects there are three-headed teams of smartasses meditating over gui's.

If the plugin GUI is bad, I'd like better if it is a non-gui one: usually it's easier to dial-in in the "host" UI that in a bad GUI (when you get to know the plugin).

I think you're mixing up a skin and an interface. A good interface can be ugly, but a great skin can be hard to use.

A good interface and controls that react appropriately CAN make a plugin. A good skin can not.

that's egg/chicken

I used to be a part of couple of such (quasee) dee-sign teams earlier in 2000's. Thank God it's over. L'ego-land ...

Well it all depends on how you define an interface or a skin. Basically in a dynamic system which runs in real-time, every movement of your mouse counts (or so I was told ... ). Much of skin/interface definition depends on whether you count a (graphical) control layout on given screen area into "skin" or into "interface (layout)".

Frankly, I don't care anymore.

Basically, I just put down a new "by-the-book" rule for plugin interface and/or skin designers:

T's rule No.1:

"If it has a blue led on it, it's all good and classy."

@ S/S: Have you ever heard of "powder coat" finish? Like on '50s '60s equipment, Pultecs, switchboards ... ?
yep, but this one doesn't even look like powder coat (I didn't know the term in english). It looks like concrete :D . must a matter of grain size 8)

I'll tell you what. Go ahead and release a "beta" version of this, as it stands, then go put the tile up. That way, when you get back, we'll have tested it and we'll be ready to offer suggestions or praise!

It's a win-win situation!

Brent

P.S.- I absolutely love the new GUI much more than the older one. Great job!

I think his woman won't consider betareleases an excuse to avoid put the tile...

Post

No, not in PLACE of the tile, but DURING the tile! He won't have to do a thing with the software while putting the tile up. We'll handle that for him!
