Hi all

I want to start my own music project. Until today I've been doing music with my computer (cubase, vsti's ad so on) but now I want to play and record my own instruments. So, I would like to buy a usb mixer so that I can record directly to the HD. The only requirements I have abot the mixer are: USB, 6 channels the máximum and at least two of them pre-amplified (so that I don't have to buy a DI Box).

I would like to have your sugestions about mixer models under these requirements.

do you absolutely need a mixer? There are a few, but if you're just recording your own instruments why not just a decent soundcard and do your mixing in your host?

I've tried it already....but if you could see the amount of cables I have behind my computer you'd understand me. By using a mixer I will have all the flexibility...you see, I don't have a studio...my studio is my living room so, everytime I'll put all the gear up to record, I will have to disassemble everything...so, I need to avoid to have to go to my computer back panel and deal with a lot of cables....and I could have easier control on all the parameters even without having to go to the computer...imagine to have to do that while recording a drum set.

i'll sell you my alesis multimix 8 usb (it's got 4 preamps/8 channels/16bit interface) for $60 shipped. It normally goes for about $130.

it's a good little mixer. i've been looking to clear up funds for teh wusikstation groub buy...

actually my livingroom is my studio as well, but everything stays assembled. However a mixer may not be the answer still even with your needs. There are several good usb (and firewire) mobile soundcards that provide sufficient inputs, are obviously optimized for quick set-up and breaking down, that do this with a breakout box that means no need to go to the back of your machine and you get direct monitorig on most that means zero latency. I think you should really look into a usb soundcard as a solution and not a mixer.

I need sugestions for usb sound cards. Please note I don't want things like Soundblasters or similar. I want something more professional.
