Out of curiousity, which is the other one?
it's a vsti, the uberschall ones use it
And Energy XT2 :D
XT2 uses elastique efficient, not pro, according to zplane http://www.zplane.de/index.php?page=des ... -elastique

FL Studio 7 uses pro.

Cool, I'd heard Live/FL and EnergyXT use the efficient version, but it's nice to know FL has stepped up to the Pro version.

I wish Cakewalk would use Elastique as an option for their realtime stretching algorithm (and use Radius for off-line). The in-house preview timestretching algorithm is absolutely awful, even for a preview.

- Price is not everything, I do not base my decision on how much something costs
- MIDI editing is very poor and no scoring inbuilt
- Audio editing is unusual (no easy way to crossfade two audio clips unless autocrossfade is on)
- ReWire implementation is not finished (can't send MIDI to more than 16 midi channels)
- I miss my tools (sciscorrs .etc), they are much faster to work with when doing multiple cuts
- GUI / menus are very clutterred compared to Cubase
- No inbuilt audio editing with offline history like Cubase
- No high quality time stretching (e.g. MPEX, Radius)
- Too many dialogs to do basic things (e.g. adding a send, adding an insert)
- Very limited automation functionality (no way to draw automation with mouse, multiple automation lanes are messy)
- No audio organisation (e.g. audio pool in cubase / audio window in logic)
- No freeze
- Stop button in ReWire slave always brings cursor back to start position
>snip<
perfectly said, fots, that's my reasons, too ... especially the yellow marked one ...

lemme add some:

- no content-linkable editors
- no partbased midiautomation (i hate the write/read/latch trackbased automations, i'd rather would like a closed part, which i can freely move around also to different tracks and remap to any parameter)

@tom g:

you should consider to combine some vote-points, as there's more for me to choose than just one point ... if that isn't possible, the whole thing gets not tooo representative (if it can be at all) ...
nevertheless, it's a great idea to put this thread on .. hope justin reads this ...

but i just noticed FL7 is also! 6 used efficient 7 has gone pro
Thanks swivel :D

So what is the difference between Efficient and Pro Elastique?

The Reason i don't use Reaper is that i don't like the way you add a vsti to a track and the midi handling.

Ok :D
Thanks for the info Theo :tu:

Happy with Tracktion 2 workflow and modular signal flow in racks.

Not using reaper because of the company. OP tomg said no flames for folks expressing their opinions, so here it goes to see if the masses can honor the OP's request.....

I won't buy products from companies that name their company and products with junior high-school scatalogical names.

Cases and points from the COCKOS website:

COCKOS
A$$sniffer
Jesusonic
Reaper

C'mon - grow up!!

I'm surprized that he hasn't released a compressor plugin called 'B00Bsqueezer'; Or a noise reduction program called 'fart-eliminator'.

I also really don't think that the Reaper is something to joke about.

Had these products been named with less offensive names, I might actually be a user. I used WinAmp for years (same developer as these other softwares).

The userbase over at the cockos forum seems to be really oriented towards using a DAW to record live music (especially guitar bands it seems), then mixing the tracks. For people who use mostly VSTi's and midi to generate patterns & loops - without ever recording anything from 'outside' - there seems to be a severe lack of representation in the forum & development focus.
Perhaps there is a difference between a DAW & a sequencer? But the big apps like Logic, Cubase seem to cater OK to both groups - witness the tons of house & dnb producers who use Logic for example.

Having said that, I do use reaper at the moment. But doing midi stuff is a chore (arming tracks for external kb input, simple automation, etc..). If reaper truly wants to become a universal sequencer alternative, it's got to start moving beyond the protools mindset and start implementing some of the FL/ableton/xt2/project5 midi/loop features.

a) It's a long way from being ready for my D2D work
b) It's not ready for my clients
c) Because it can't do anything that my main host can't do. The same is not true of the reverse.
d) Because I don't need another DAW app.

I have it installed and keep it updated, but more as a curio than anything. Kudos to Justin, though. It's making great strides, but there's still a long way to go.
Please understand that this is coming from someone who quotes Terry Pratchett - Melkor

The latest version of Reaper that I have actually tried was 1.8something so maybe things have changed after that but my main reasons are:

- The routing is tedious and much more complicated than I need (I usually use just VSTi's with very little audio)
- The midi editor and midi functionality in general. Scoring is important for me as well.
- I'm happy with Cubase so I don't see any need to learn another DAW in near future.

Truly mind-boggling music! - New album out! - And a blog!

that is my case, so I do not go for software that emulates a multitrack recorder...

tomg, do you have a link to the reaper forum thread? I had a browse at cockos, but couldn't find it, thanks :)

Scott: ignored the whole "Winamp -- it really whips the llama's ass" thing they've always done, then? :) And haven't you ever heard, don't fear the reaper?

I've tried all kinds of hosts and none of them make as much immediate sense to me as FL Studio. I can zoom around and get things done there, but other hosts haven't given me a compelling reason to claw my way up the learning curve. (Except for Bidule, but that'd be more of a special-case thing to host inside of FL.)

I have bought the $50 license simply because Reaper is cool. And in some time it will grow into an absolutely stunning app. Though I should confess that I still do most of my stuff in XT2 -- mostly because I can sequence & record my hardware synth with it using NicFit's MIDI Out plugin.
