Squids wrote:However, the good news is that Sonic Reality IS going to have high end drum kits for download very soon ranging from $25-100. Like I said, Ocean Way is our biggest but it is even still scratching the surface of the drums we have in our archives that are to be released. We just prioritized it because... well, it's a rare opportunity we couldn't resist!
Well, I'm definitely going to be in the market for some of those drum kits now. Just had a call from Roland UK telling me I've won a HD-1 V-Drum lite!!!

I vaguely remember entering a competition some time back - absolutely shocked to hear I'd won. :D

Now just have to convince the wife that it will look cool permanently set up in our lounge (ha ha)

Congratulations! That's awesome! Well done m8!

Way to go ScarKord, I can almost hear them beats all the way over here.

nothing in almost a month?! what's going on over there?

Not to be shrill but---can we get an update on release and a ballpark for the price? I need a drums package pronto. I've looked at Addictive Drums and Larry Seyer Acoustic, but I would be willing to hold out to demo Ocean Way if the price is reasonable and it's not months in the future. Squids, can you tell us any specifics yet?

A lot of information now on www.oceanwaydrums.com including screen shots, the box and more... audio demos coming and detailed I-Map and V-Drum Map demonstrations on video and more.

Here's some information about the prices. The product is a the top level of quality and "spare no expense" production. It is positively the most expensive drum product ever made and sounds like it too. So, be prepared this is much much higher than other SR products and other drum products out there. But, it IS the sound of Ocean Way and Allen Sides which is nothing short of PHENOMINAL! Blow away. I mean, the fidelity of this product is ASTOUNDING!

The Gold Edition has a street price of around $800-900. depending on where you are in the world. It's around 40 gigabytes on multiple DVDs and only has the 24 bit 48K material (no 96K).

The Platinum Edition has both the 40 gig material of the Gold PLUS the 96K material which is 80 gigs (a total of 120 gigs!) and ships on a very nice 10,000 RPM Raptor hard drive (your choice of internal or external). The price is almost double the Gold though so it is only for top pros or people who have that kind of budget (or really want the highest audio sampling rate for drums with the best recording quality).

Personally, I LOVE the 96K material but I am perfectly fine using the 48K material so I would go for the Gold. The hard drive IS convenient though (no installation time for the sounds... 120 gigs of sounds to install on disc would be a nightmare). It all depends on your budget.

If that's too much for you there MAY be a Silver Edition coming later. But that's not a definite. If we do it there will be less mics to mix and no engineer mixed presets (which is one of the best features) so... I think the Gold Edition is THE one to get. It is going on pre-order any day now on www.esoundz.com

But check the website for more info and be sure to sign up (we're also going to be giving away some stuff to those that sign up so... you might as well). www.oceanwaydrums.com

Well I continue to be pumped about Ocean Way Drums. Too bad it's coming out just before Christmas when I'll be totally tapped. My wife (God bless her) just gave me my gift yesterday (a few days early I know but I used it on a session already), a Roland V-drum kit (TD-3SW).

So now I'm more than ready, just need to finish this project (and get paid) and I could be the proud owner of the "Gold Edition". Sure would like to hear some good demos.

Regards
Rainman

Best wishes to all for the holidays and please play safe.

The Edition will be a nice addition. :D

Hey if you don't do a Silver edition, why not put some time and effort into making it mappable - no, better yet - a MIDI learn function. Scores of TD 6 thru 12 owners will slurp these things up, not to mention all the Yamaha, Hart, Alesis, etc. edrummers. Remember that all the decent kits start at around two grand, so we're not a cheap bunch by any means.

In any case, the videos sound fantastic, even with the dodgey YouTube sound. Jeepers, you are one helluva keyboard drummer!

We're using NI's Kontakt Player engine so we have no control over whether it does midi learn or any of that... especially with mapping. Although that would be nice. A little host app that can remap with midi learn might be possible (may already even exist!). Anyone know? That's be great or drummers. If not we'll make one probably at some point.

You may want to checkout this site: http://www.edrummonitor.com/ (http://www.edrummonitor.com/)
It allows you to remap midi notes and was created for drummers. Seems to be just what you're looking for. It includes MIDI learn, option to alternate snare hits using different notes and capability for high hat control.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tod. Sounds interesting.

By the way, everyone who is interested in Ocean Way Drums, the main Gold Edition is going up for pre-order this week. Maybe tomorrow. It will be shipping in 2-3 weeks.

Thanks very much Tod. Right now I'm using the Edrum MIDI Mapper for all my edrum mapping, which is basically the same thing - albeit the edrum monitor seems to have more bells and whistles. Will have to check it out. Appreciate the tip.

That would be nice. Especially since I need all the ammunition I can get to somehow convince my wife that OWD will sound hundreds of dollars better than BFD2!

Cheers.

Those are also coming this week. I have some cool rock demos done in LA and I am doing some "just drums" demos playing I-Map without music just to hear it raw. But you can also hear a taste as well as a detailed explanation of the I-Map and V-Drum Mapping if you go to the Media section of www.oceanwaydrums.com Check out the videos I did there a the bottom.
