I thought the limited time offer was only for upgrades for existing RMX owners. The actual product is available new boxed from dealers, isn't it? A company wouldn't do that if the new version were right around the corner.

Eric has posted on other forums that he intends to continue supporting RMX for "years". Here are a couple of recent quotes from him:

"...the RMX Xpanded package will be around for a long, long time. This is just a limited offer to existing users." - 12/12/07

This quote refers to the existing 3 apps:

"We plan to support these instruments with killer new features and new sounds for many, many years to come." - 12/15/07

Based on the above, I'd say we'll see a brand new instrument from Spectrasonics.

To me it seems like another Spectrasonics Bestseller without which nobody will be able to live once they know what it is exectly.
It sounds like the first purchase of 2008 for me.

Oh well, I hope it's not too expensive. Maybe all the loyal users, me included, will be able to get this new instrument with a discount price.

I don't care what it is or how much it costs (as long as it's under $1k, and knowing Spectra, it's going to be) - I'm buying it the day it comes out.

NO WAY that wouldnt make sence , every tom dick and harry uses spectrasonics products so why bother combining what they already have......

ive just installed a samsung 500GB drive so im reading for it...

whatever they announced at NAMM probebly wont be out til ages anyway , i remember stylus RMX being announced at NAMM and it wasnt released til months later....

I'm actually hoping for rmx v2 with shitload of content and talent generator fx.

I'd go for "the rmx expanded" deal right now but it's christmas time - meaning I've got no spare cash atm. rmx v2 in march/april, that'd be great.

I don't belive that RMX is in line for an upgrade just yet. Atmosphere two or a rompler engine with the ability to load the old Akai libraries (in a new form...like sage for sliced files) sounds about right to me.

I really don't know, just guessing. Stylus RMX & Trilogy are my main tools. I prefer an RMX update but I don't think this is going to happen.

I'm sure whatever it is will be awesome (+1 for Atmosphere RMX!!). I'm hoping that we'll see some stuff for Stylus RMX along the lines of Stormdrum - I guess that might fall under the "cinematic" category...

This is what it will be:

They've dumped the UVI engine. THey have created a new player that will have a core sound set like RMX but it will have tonal instruments and grooves (i.e. not percussion like RMX) It will be able to host "Sage like" expansion modules like RMX. Spectrasonics will take all of the older sample libs like SOV, Vocal Planet, Hans Zimmer Guitars, etc and offer them as expanders for around $99 each. Do the math. It's easy...

A new VST soley based on one instrument (like Trilogy)

PSS I hope now that they have written their own technology we won't have to wait for 5 years to see an upgrade on any particular product.

PSS And the RMX expansion deal going on right now is to generate enough liquid cash to make a huge splash at NAMM. (I hate it when I am right!)

I think they will continue to offer dedicated single-purpose instruments, optimised for the task at hand. Will they be expandable and based on their in-house engine - more than likely.

Don't forget they've come *from* the generic option (sample libraries for dedicated hardware samplers) and have moved away from generic libraries for a whole bunch of reasons.

But I think they like to keep things simple and not confuse their userbase - my guess is that they will stick to the concept they've started - a remix groove/drum instrument (RMX), a bass instrument (Trilogy), a synth instrument (Atmosphere) and expand on that by doing new instruments (eg maybe a guitar instrument).

They have a lot of experience doing drum libraries, but I'm not sure there is space in the market for *another* huge drum instrument like BFD etc, despite the Spec's obvious talents in this area.

We'll see, I guess...
