Reflekshun - Addictions

This is again something quite different stylistically for me, but the general focus is conveying an emotional message on addictions (instrumentally). To me this is a very personal piece, I hope you can all relate and/or enjoy this piece!

Any and all feedback is very welcome. Thankyou to anyone who takes the time out to listen to this!

Wow, beautiful composition! I love the creative accents in the groove. If I do say so myself, the bass fits perfectly. Did you use a preset, or make your own? That's a very lovely deep bass tone. Nice job on the mixing, too, and very cool use of the bitcrusher.

Glad Manybass is proving useful, and I look forward to hearing future compositions of yours.

P.S. Actually, the groove was so natural-sounding, I didn't even notice it's in 7/8.

Beautiful, What time signature(s) did you use?!

Did you excite it? I sounds a little overexcited!

Thanks for listening Gregjazz, and thanks for the compliments. I Started with the 'Smooth-Finger' Preset, and changed a few things. (Tube amp, eq, turned off echo and compressor, replaced with my own compressor). Was a pleasure to play in live with the drums!

sb.net - thankyou also for listening - the time signature is 7/8. I started with the piano (Truepianos) and it just happened to be in 7/8, I was in quite a chaotic mood so I guess thats why hehe. It does have some fairly heavy mastering, and a bit of exciter, but I am a sucker for those high frequencies!! hehe love em

I really like it. I can see how the repetitive nature gives the addictive feel. I found myself waiting for a change which never came (other than the filtering) - maybe a change of key, the same thing straightened out to 4/4 or extended to 9/8 for 16 bars. But your intentions were clear, and I can see why you didn't opt for doing that, and the piece has an internal consistency for it. :)

I was fond of the part where the 'band' is being filtered, but the violins kept going over the top - I might use something like that myself when the need arises. You could almost have gotten away with a strings solo whilst the filtering was going on so the ear gets confused as to what it's actually listening to - should it focus on the decaying band, or the solo? That kind of tension can work really well.

Overall, it's very well done - I'm a suxor for odd-times (I find it easier to play in 5 and 7 than in 4 ), and the subtlety of this particular fragment is very appealing. The sounds are good, etc.

Hey, reflekshun, I've had your track "savour the moment" on my mp3-player since you publishedit here and still love it! This track is also good, but not quite as convincing. Maybe I'm listening too intently, but I am missing some variation . The bitcrushing effect is not entirely fitting IMO. But I am being picky, the mix and general composition is very good.

Duncanparsons: Thankyou for listening, yes there was a clear vision to maintain an repetitive addictive destructive cycle. It was a challenge to make that not boring, so I hope it didn't kill you hehe. I'm glad you liked the filtered section (I presume at the end with the violins not filtered?) There is actually an insane amount of automation going on at that point haha. Glad someone likes it! A very interesting idea you have on the violin solo - although I thought I had exhausted the violin solo enough for this song, its definitely a very nice idea for something in the future! Thanks for all your comments and feedback, very encouraging and fruitful :)

Jakob: Thanks also for listening! Glad to hear about Savor the Moment :) Although the target audience for this piece is waaay different from that of 'Savor the Moment'. I wouldn't expect too many people at all to actually appreciate this song because of its 'background music' nature. Thanks for your feedback I'm taking it on board - its always interesting and useful to hear varying views and opinions!
