Ok, I'm thinking of getting Tsaiko to start doing some more cinematic stuff as well as some other creative things.

But while I'm trying to round out my percussion, I'm wondering if there were any free samples around that contain some other cinematic-style percussion supplemental material.

Now, I'm not talking about different drums, shakers, scratchers, etc. I've got those. I'm talking about the sweeps, blips and blops, etc. that you see in orchestral scores.

As an example, this Tsaiko drums demo:

It's got some sweeps and swells and other things that aren't necessarily percussion. I'm pretty bad at programming synths, although I'm sure I could do it. But I strongly prefer samples since I work almost exclusively with them anyways.

I hope that all makes sense. Any suggestions of some free sounds like that?

Take it you've looked at the free stuff from Project SAM?

Not in a while. I have the stuff they had for free before somewhere, but I'm not sure where. But I'll go there now and check it out.

I found a couple of things like this in the SonicCouture free stuff, namely the Konkrete Drums free samples. But only a limited amount of stuff that fits what I'm looking for.

Also, didn't Project SAM used to have a Timpani available? I know I have it somewhere(or was it Westgate Studios or something?), but can't seem to find it right now.

you need jeff rona's cinematic impact by m-audio. it's not free but i don't remember it being expensive. also a colleague of sean's makes impact steel (will roget) - he might be using some of those sounds in that demo. really talented guys

Thanks. That does look exactly like what I'm looking for, but it's about $40 street price it seems. So for now I'll have to look for freebies. But I'll keep that one in mind as it sounds perfect!

I am not sure if this may be part of what you're looking for, but I have some free electronic drums and percussions kits. If you do not already have them, they can be downloaded here:

I also have other unexpensive percussive sets (Chromatic Hits, Prepared Rhodes and Sidekick). They all have downloadable demos.

Thanks! I actually have that electronic kit on my machine IIRC. I'll have to look through it. I'll also check out the other stuff you mentioned, as I know your stuff is extremely affordable.

The G Town samples would perhaps be useful. It's a bunch of instruments recorded in a church.I downloaded a bassdrum swell soundfont at sf2midi.com from the collection that was pretty good.
